Cardboard Review:2021 Topps Heritage High Number

I guess for me lost in the shuffle for card releases this year is the latest Topps Heritage product. I guess I already thought this product had been released and not just coming out.

I suppose because there was a minor league edition and it's been such a long time since Low Number was released, I forgot that the High Number never came out. 

So, let's check it out now that we know it hasn't already been released.

Every box of 2021 Topps Heritage High Number comes with 24 pack of 9 cards. Each box has a relic, sorry, an autograph or relic for a price of $75 or less.

There is also a choice of 3 box toppers you can find, I found an Originals 72 buybacks.

BASE:

The base set picks up where the low numbered ended with new rookies and veterans not included in the first series.

 

And if you are curious for those rookie chasers, yes, this guy is in there.

There are 200 cards in this set to collect.

Along with 25 Sp's

SPs And Parallels:

You can find the following parallels in Heritage,

Black Border /50, Flip Stock /5.

 

Many don't consider the Variations parallels to the base, but I do. The Andres Giminez is a Team Color one while the Cavan Biggio is actually just the missing card from the Low Numbered.

The most important part of the variations is the fact you don't have to read the little numbers anymore as the cards themselves tell you what is what. I wished Topps did that with every product with variations.

Purple Hot Box, Refractor /572, Red Border /372, Black Border /72, Gold Border /5 and SuperFractor 1/1.

Chrome Refractor /572 of the guy who beat the Yankees in the...hold on...not the same guy.

INSERTS:

 

There are 15 cards to collect in the Rookie Performers set.

15 Cards make up the Now and then set. So 70's looking!!

There are 9 cards to find in the Award Winners set.

72 World Series Highlights has 10 cards to find.

There are 15 cards to collect in the Clemente 3000 hit set.

HITS:

A relic, a pitcher relic. sigh. I have never hit an auto from Heritage.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

I like Heritage and just like my thoughts with the Low Numbered, I still prefer a retail version. You pay less, still have a shot at relic and autographs, and still land the same types of cards. I just can't see putting $75 into getting a relic, especially a pitcher relic.

As for the product itself, I love how the 70s theme stays throughout the inserts and hits.

REVIEW:2021 Topps Fire (NIIIICE PULL)

THIS BOX WAS ON FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRREEE!

Sorry, I think I use that Alicia Keys song every time I open up some Topps Fire. It just simply fits.

In the past I have not had great success with the product, both football (when Topps had the license) and baseball. In 2021, that has changed and it took to the last pack to change it.

Let's check it out:

Each retail exclusive 2021 Topps Fire hobby box comes with 20 packs of 6 cards each. Each box comes with 2 autographs and boxes run around $70-$100. Pretty cheap looking at today's standard.

BASE:

The base set consists of 200 cards that includes veterans, legends and

rookies of the game.

The art designs done in Tyson Beck style. The designs the last few years have felt similar and kind of a drop off from when the product first dropped. That 2014 football design is still the best out there.

PARALLELS:

The following parallels can be found in this years Topps Fire:

Gold Minted, Flame, Orange /299, Green #/199 (1:30), Purple #/99 (1:60), Magenta #/25 (1:236), Onyx SSP (1:241), Inferno 1/1 (1:6,013).

Green falls 1:20

Orange falls 1:20

INSERTS:

For me, Topps Fire is what brings the heat in fire. If only the base can bring the intensity the inserts do.

There are 15 cards to collect in Flame Throwers and they fall 1:13 packs.

Fired Up (my favorite design) falls 1:13 packs and has 15 cards to collect as well.

Smoke and Mirrors has 20 cards and falls 1:8 packs

Rookie Ignition falls 1:8 packs and has 25 cards to collect.

Falling 1:10, the We Have Liftoff set has 20 cards to collect

HITS:

My first hit was my typical find, though not a pitcher, and I was ready for another disappointing break.

Then came the last pack mojo.......

What a beaut!

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Well, the box was heading in the wrong direction until I hit the Vlad. I have seen many big hits from this product already this year but this was my first time ever landing one. I also really dig the design on the card and the fact its an on-card auto.

The design for most of the product, especially the inserts is nice. It's a fun rip if you can find any.

Cardboard Review:2020 Onyx Vintage Extended Series 2 Box Break (HUGE HIT)

Baseball season has officially ended, but that doesn't mean the baseball card season has. That never has an end date.

Swinging it's way into stores recently is the latest product from Onyx, which is Vintage Extended Edition. Which is basically an update or Series 2 to the Onyx Vintage. I reviewed the first series awhile back and had a blast, not too mention I also pulled a Gavin Lux auto.

So I couldn't wait until I got my hands onto this edition and today will show off how a two box break may look.

How did my break go? Well, you gotta read on to find out.

Every box, which feels like a pack, of Onyx Vintage Extended Edition comes with 4 cards. Two of those cards will be base and the other two will be autographs. On card autographs as well. Boxes of this product currently sit just under $40.

Before I show you how Box One went, I wanted to show you the back of the box and how the product is broken down.

 

Now onto the box break.

 

You open the box from the side and pull it out. Inside is a clear pack and this one shows Diego Caraya right on top.

 

Here is a better look at the Cartaya. I think Onxy did a great job with the design and feel of these cards.

Now onto the two autographs. The checklist overall for this product is small which isn't a bad thing because you have a better chance to land a top autograph for a pretty solid price for the box.

Some solid names to chase in there. Being a Yankees fan I of course prayed hard for a Dominguez.

 

But, no luck in box 1.

Kris Bubic went 1-6 in his time in the MLB this past season for the Royals.

 

Felnin Celesten is an International Prospect who could be a stud when he reaches the majors.

 

There are also parallels to the autographs as well, but the base blue autographs like the ones I pulled are "numbered" to 275 copies. There are also Green Signatures (50 copies), Red Signatures (25 copies), Purple Signatures (10 copies), Black Signatures (5 copies), and Full Name/Inscription that are numbered.

So not too bad for the first box. I wonder what the second box will hold...(prays for Dominguez)

BOOM!!!! First overall pick of the 2020 draft Spencer Torkelson.

The second autograph was of 2015 first round draft pick Ryan Mountcastle of the Orioles.

Box number 2 was an obvious winner despite the lack of Dominguez for me.

Overall though, pretty solid breaks. I like the design and feel of the product and think with some of the big names on the checklist that this one is worth a gamble on if you are into collecting prospects.

Freshly Perked:Oooops, I Forgot

Its been close to a month now since I received today's dual mail day threat and I am ashamed that I hadn't shared this or thanked those who sent them yet.

The first mail day came from the great Cards On Cards who had mailed out my freebie claims on one of his Friday giveaways. I have no idea who any of these guys are but saw the shine so grabbed them.

(actually this one wasn't just for the shine, it was for the Nationals part that I have a trading buddy who would enjoy it)

My next mail day came from @Jake1725 who is unloading his Aaron Judge PC as he is no longer collecting him. Since Jude is one of the only three Yankees I collect, I looked through to see what he had and three caught my eye.

 

Blue parallel. It's so shiny.

What I haven't mentioned yet, I gave up collecting Aaron Judge last year at some point and traded away all of my Judge cards to him. Some of the ones he is moving on from are ones that were once in my collection. I wished I could had grabbed back the Topps Chrome purple and pink refractor rookie cards I had but those went elsewhere. However, I was able to snag back two I hated to lose in the first place.

I went from not getting any cards in the mail to getting an onslaught at times where it's been really hard to keep up and being able to post other segments that are not mail day related.
