NPN Of The Week
With the lack of me buying a lot of newer products, I haven't had many NPN addresses to share in weeks. So in return this Sunday, I wanted to show off an NPN I just got in from Upper Deck. By far, they are the easiest NPN of them all. Just go online to their website that you can locate HERE.
Being a rookie card collector and this one not only being a rookie card, but an autograph as well, I was pretty stoked to be able to add this to my collection for the cost of nothing.

Hobby Break 'Em: 2013 Upper Deck Thor The Dark World 8 Pack Break
Being a collector of everything and a fan of Marvel comics and movies, yup you can call me a full-time nerd, I thought it would be fun to be able to break some packs of Thor The Dark World.
There are 8 cards per pack of Thor The Dark World. Two of those may be subset cards along with one sticker. You can find sketch cards, rare autographs and costume cards from the movie. Each pack is a little under $5.
Now onto how I did:
Upper Deck even does a great job with mostly borderless photography cards for entertainment cards as well giving you the best action shots from the movie.
There are also two subsets within the Thor base set:
Who doesn't want a costume card of the one and only Natalie Portman? This is also the second best costume card you can get from the set.
Very cool 1/1 Sketch Card . I have always been a fan of these.
This final card, though not very valuable, is so sweet. It's printed on very thick acetate and has a 3D look to it.
Overall, for only 8 packs, I totally scored. A 1/1, a costume card and cool designed insert. Doesn't get any better of a break than that.

The winner of my poll for Which ONE Of These Players Would You Want Any Rookie Card Of? is not a surprise to me. I expected Mickey Mantle to win but didn't know by how much. I was a bit surprised by votes for Yasiel Puig and Ichiro on this list with so older Hall Of Fame players to vote for. Let me know your thoughts on this poll as well.

Review: Panini Gold Standard Basketball 2013-2014
A box of cards that come shipped in a box the shape of a gold brick, how can you not want to give it a try? One of Panini's most popular brands among NBA collectors makes an awesome return in 2013-2014 packed with everything that collectors want. Just see for yourself!
Before I start my review, I would like to say thanks to the WONDERFUL people at Panini America for providing us with this box to review. DESIGN:
If you are looking for an overall product with eye appeal, well you found one right here. From the base cards to the autographs, everything is gold and has a shine to it.
The Black Gold jersey cards look outstanding. A nice size swatch and a decent shot of a player has this card well balanced in design. Not too much of one thing or another.
And the Gold Record design paying tribute to Rock And Rollers looks great as well printed in black and gold with the gold record being an actual piece of 14K gold.
And all autographs are ON CARD! That also helps with design in the product as its much more elegant without stickers.
The metal cards, my first one, are very heavy and a very unique collectible to be had.
COOL NOTES: Look for Solid Gold Cards with photos on real 14 Karat Gold. This is very cool!
Also you can find 25 short-printed variations cards featuring players wearing the jerseys of every team they've played for. Makes for quite the chase! Also in this years product is four brand-new autograph inserts all numbered to 299 or less!
THOUGHTS:
Well, this was my first time ever opening this product because it is expensive but I must say I am overly impressed. The appeal from the outside of the box, a gold brick, the value (at least in this box) and the overall design of this product makes me wonder why I hadn't tried it earlier. I guess the fear of not pulling back my money's worth was part of the problem. With a great break of the product like this one, hitting the Griffin as my top card in the pack may help tempt me to come back again. I must state again, with every product, there is some risk involved but if I am going to take such a risk, I would take it with a product like this one that has so much to offer.
You ask what does it have to offer, I say on-card autographs, glimmer and shine, chances at a card completely made of gold and cards with gold pieces in them. Almost every card being numbered helping values. Not to mention and I will say it again, a really nice design.
One of the weird and only disappointing thing I found with the product was that every card is numbered EXCEPT the autographed/memorabilia rookie cards. Those are supposed to be one of the premier hits in a box break and not to find it numbered was a bit odd.
However, overall, I like Gold Standard and wished Panini would extend this brand back out to the NFL. Design and on-card autos alone would help sell it.

BREAKING NEWS: IT'S BAAAAAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!
If you have been around Sport Card Collectors in the past year, you might have participated in something called the Monthly Contests. On my birthday today, I am happy to announce IT HAS RETURNED! The contest that this blog is well known for will run til at least October and will make it's anticipated surprise return on April 1st.
For those of you who may not be familiar with what the monthly contest is, every day I post up a game or a stat from multiple sports you must pick the winner of. If you get the game or stat right, you win a point. You get it wrong, you get zero points. There will be standings you can keep track of your score on and the the top three at the end of 20 days win prizes. The only rules here is that you must be a U. S. Resident and you must be into fun challenges.
There will be a few changes to the contest this time around, mainly in the prize department but others will be made as well. Main prizes for this contest will be provided by Jammin JDcards and BCW Supplies. I may throw some in as well depending on the amount of participants, Panini reviews we do and what prizes are offered for the month. Make sure you are following both Jammin JDcards and BCW Supplies and tell them thank you for the prizes and their support. I will post the prizes along with the standings at the end of this month followed by your first entry into the contest on April 1st. In this contest, remember you are never out and nothing is ever randomed. You control if you win or not by picking games/stats right. This is what makes this contest so much fun.
