2012-2013Panini Flawless Basketball...$1250 A Pack

With Panini's recent big news about having Damian Lillard autographed rookie cards in the rest of their upcoming basketball card products, Panini previewed what is being called a very high end product in Flawless Basketball 2012-2013 set to release in early October and will carry 10 cards per pack that breaks down to seven autographs, two jumbo memorabilia cards and a diamond- or emerald-embedded card.  Which all of that sounds great til you see the price per pack that jumps out to you at a whopping $1,250 pack.

The product also promises that no card in the set will be numbered higher than 25 and there will be a maximum of 20 complete base sets available. Diamond-encrusted base cards will be numbered to 20, and will be paralleled by an emerald-embedded version numbered to five and a diamond-embedded 1/1 version.

I think the product looks great and everything, the question I ask, will collectors who can afford high-end products bite at it without Michael Jordan or LeBRON James autographs being in it. Only time can tell how collectors will perceive this product of this price and breakdown magnitude.

Let us know your thoughts on Panini's new high-end product and if you will be ripping it? (if you do rip, please rip and share with us. Send us an email with your hits for us to post at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com)

  2. Some rich fools will buy this, but it's smart that they're going to have such a limited production. I don't mean to be politically incorrect, but is the NBA really the right league to be attempting this with? Panini puts out sooo many high end NBA products already, and it's no secret that the NFL and MLB trump the NBA in popularity, especially among higher income demographics. Should be interesting but I expect we'll see packs fall to the $700 price range before all is said and done.

    1. You are right on. To me this is just Panini testing the market.

  3. I do believe that you are correct, skybox. When targeting the US audience. However, the NBA is more popular (collectingwise) overseas, than both the NFL and especially the MLB.

That said, this should have been a 2013/14 release. With National Treasures and the upcomming Immaculate, there is simply no reason for this set, other than a quick moneygrab.
