Beam Me Up Kyle!

 

I have recently been posting some single cards on Twitter to PWE trade and had some luck in doing so.

When I put up a Chase Young parallel from Optic, it took only seconds for someone to grab it.

What was I seeking in return, NY Giants, non sport cards and of course 90's inserts.

The last one is exactly what @KyleMes had for me.

These 1993-1994 Stadium Club Beam Teams fell randomly in packs and look really cool. As soon as I saw these, I had to trade for them.

These are 27 cards in the set with some of the biggest names in the NBA in it.

I had no temptation to collect this set until I landed these. Now I feel like I must especially since I already have the MJ piece from a yard sale 10 years ago.

Here is what I have so far towards the set 2,4,17,19,25 and would welcome any help from any of you reading.

I don't know the odds on these or even if there were any. I just know a card like this needs to be shown off.

Rainbow foil...so so purty

 

If only the back was as good as the front. It at least gives some good player stats and a solid write up.

This card is limited and numbered if you didn't know and I am proud to be one of the 24,900 owners of such a card.

Wrappers Of Collecting Past:1994-1995 Topps Series 2 Basketball

1994-1995 Topps Series 2 basketball for me meant a Grant Hill chase. Each series came with 198 cards and Grant Hill to me was the most important rookie of that class so Series 2 was the way I went.

I also was fond of the Spectra Light parallels. Those looked pretty sharp. The base set in general, wasn't great, but the parallels definitely improved it.

The 90's Collection:1994-1995 Fleer All Star Weekend Patrick Ewing

My Knicks PC doesn't match my other ones as I moved away from collecting them as much since 2000, they year I feel the Knicks became a disgrace, but I still pick up cards from the 90's when I spot them.

Especially when they look this good....

 

I think anytime you can make a card that resembles the sport represented, you have a winner. I actually only have one minor complaint about the card, I do wished the name was a bit bigger but other than that, looks solid. 

I haven't quite found the odds info on these, but I would assume they fell 1:6 packs or so.

What do you guys think of cards done like this? Cool? Uncool? Why?

Nuttin But The Hits:1994-1995 Fleer Basketball 2-Pack Break

There was no other brand name  in the 90's better than the Fleer one. They put out some very solid products for many sports that offered collectors everything that they needed.

Today's pack break was one of those. With some groovy looking inserts and base cards that capture great photographic moments, I was looking forward to busting these.

Let's see how I did.

Each pack of these 1994-1995 Fleer basketball cards had 21 cards per pack. Packs then ran $1.99 and now probably go for half if not less than that. Remember when packs were actually affordable???

Now onto my "hits". I even featured key base cards I got.

 

Each pack also came with an insert. I believe they were one per pack but some inserts were tougher than others.

Overall, two inserts, two cheap packs and tons of memories. Can't go wrong.

Top 5:1994-1995 Ultra Basketball Base Cards

It has been a very long time since I have done one of the Top 5 posts, so why not do it? I also haven't ever done a Basketball one yet so this will be fun as well. I have however done Ultra many times and today is another year of Ultra. Their base cards just look so good it's hard to not do that brand.

So let's get to this.

First I want you to remember, these are the Top 5 in my opinion. You guys may have your own thoughts on these.

Up first, #5. This one is a great angle of a player trying to do a layup and Greg Anderson trying to get the block.

#4 showcases the smooth move by Tyrone Hill to get past one of my favorite Knicks, Patrick Ewing. its fun to think what may be going through Patrick's head right there.

#3 takes us high flying with Loy Vaught. In the background you can also notice a Kings player throwing their hands up in disbelief on this soon to be dunk.

#2 I not only like the angle of the shot, but the player next to Benoit's reaction to his upcoming dunk. He looks in shock.

And finally, #1 is Shaq's dunk, the fans reactions in the background and the opposing player watching this play happen sets the stage for a well rounded action shot.

90's Flashback:1994-1995 Topps Finest Refractor Anthony Mason

One of my favorite Knicks of the 90's, Anthony Mason passed away at the end of February at the really young age of 48.

I had meant to post this card back then in remembrance and a thank you but couldn't find it. But here it is now:

 

Not only do I like the player on the card, but the card itself is pretty cool. Iconic design, the refractor shine is amazing and it reminds you how great cards were in the 90's. Makes for a great PC piece. It's not always about the glitter and glam of memorabilia cards, something as simple as this is so much more exciting.

Breakin Wax: 1994-1995 Upper Deck Sp Basketball Pack Break

Still to this day very popular, Sp (now Sp Authentic), brought excitement to 90's rippers. Having been one of those rippers, I wanted to revisit what once was. Here we go!

In every pack of 1994-1995 Sp basketball is 8 cards with one of those cards being a die cut. Packs run around $3.

The base cards looked really nice. An elegant gold triangle down the left side of the blog with the player's name leaving the card open for some nice action photography. The only thing I would have fixed is the placement of the team name which blends into the bottom of the card.

Two cards that could be featured in my Caption This card segment. If you want to jump on these ahead of time, feel free to in comments.

My die cut card from the pack. You can't ever go wrong with a die cut.

And my rookie from the pack. Michael Smith. These look really cool in person with the foil background and the player in the forefront.

Overall, nothing too huge, but a few good players, a die cut and a rookie. So not a bad break in my terms. Might be something I give another go with.

90's Rip Party: 1994-1995 Skybox Premium Basketball Series 2 1 Pack Break

I think I can call this a sequel to yesterday's post that featured Skybox Premium basketball 1993-1994 in the newest edition of 90's Rip Party.

In Skybox Premium basketball 1993-1994 Series 2 there were 12 cards per pack. The design was a little down from the previous years even though for most of the base cards they stuck with the rectangle strip down the side. This time that strip could be found on either side and only contained the player's name.

Skybox also added in some brightly colored subsets with BIG WORDS such as SKY SWATS AND SKY SLAMS. They also took the rookies from the product and gave them a colored background which is very easy to spot whether you have a rookie or not.

Now onto the break:

Pulling a Grant Hill rookie card from 1994-1995 was always exciting. For me it was not only because he was a great NBA player but because he came from Duke.

As you can see with this rookie, the photographic background has been colored helping you identify that it's a rookie.

So not only did I land a Grant Hill rookie, I pulled a pretty nice looking insert as well! Though the odds on these are only 1:2 packs lol.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the results from this break. Grant Hill rookie, an insert, and some semi-stars.
