Prizm makes an NFL Return 2013

Panini as expected announced that its popular Prizm brand will make a return in football form for 2013. This years Prizm football already looking like it will outdo last years.

First off, like with the baseball preview, Panini had seemed to add more color to the base cards. Last years had way too much silver for me. That was the biggest difference between Prizm and Chrome in my opinion. Chrome took a Topps base card and "chromed it". So the background behind the players had added color and pictures from the original Topps card background.

Panini didn't have a flagship brand to "prizm" so they created a whole new product. Which would take some tweaking and I believe this years is already much improved.

Nice additions to the parallels as well. One of the most popular things about the product was its parallels. And of course they are bringing back die cuts as well.

I even like the added designs and color schemes to the Prizm inserts. Very well done!I really like the Monday Night Heroes insert. The bright color against the crisp silver of the Prizm border really stands out to me.

This years Prizm football packs as follows,  20-pack hobby box will have120 total cards. Among the 120, there will be: Two autographs, 20 Rookie Cards, three Prizm parallels and two each of the Rookie Impact, Decade Dominance, Brilliance and Monday Night Heroes inserts.

Let us know your thoughts on 2013 Prizm Football and your thoughts on Prizm overall.

Thoughts On The 2012 NFL Regular Season

Now that the NFL regular season has come to an official end we got to see an amazing year of football.

We got to see three rookie quarterbacks lead their team to the playoffs:

Russell Wilson 2012 Score Hot Rookie   2012 Score Rookie Card #304 ANDREW LUCK RC  2012 Score Hot Rookies -- ROBERT GRIFFIN III insert card #2

Some more great rookie performances by these two running backs:

DOUG MARTIN 2012 Topps Finest Football Card #108 Buccaneers  ALFRED MORRIS 2012 Rookies & Stars RC #151

And some great comeback performances and great stories

Peyton Manning 2012 Panini Black Platinum Blue Parallel Card #6/25 Broncos  2007 Topps Chrome ADRIAN PETERSON Blue Refractor Parallel Rookie Rc #181 RARE

And a record breaking season

Calvin Johnson 2007 Topps Chrome Blue Refractor RC

Not to mention some surprise teams making runs to the playoffs in Seattle, Washington, Minnesota, Cincinnati and of course Indy which was the greatest story of them all with their coach Chuck Pagano who came back in the teams final game after starting treatment for leukemia in September. That team rode #Chuckstrong to the playoffs.

But we also get to see some sad times as well. First the bounty gate scandal that not only put a little hurt on the league but also hurt the Saints and their season as well. Lucky for them they resigned their coach to a huge contract so they can make a run next season and this scandal will be passed them hopefully. Also, even though I am a huge Giants fan, no longer seeing Andy Reid on the Eagles sidelines will be a little different next season. Reid was was the longest-tenured coach in the NFL at 14 seasons, going 130-92-1 during the regular season. He led the Eagles to nine playoff appearances, including five NFC title games and one Super Bowl that they lost to the Patriots in.

Players and teams that had magic last season like Tim Tebow sat on the pine watching another big shot quarterback falter to lead his team anywhere. The Giants, hate to even talk about this, starting 6-2 looking to defend their title and leading the division by two games and looking playoff bound falling apart towards the end of the season finishing 3-5 and missing out.

Now as we move onto Wild Card Weekend:

NFL Wild Card Weekend schedule

Saturday
4:30 p.m.: Bengals at Texans (NBC)
8 p.m.: Vikings at Packers (NBC)
Sunday
1 p.m.: Colts at Ravens (CBS)
4:30 p.m.: Seahawks at Redskins (Fox)

It will be interesting to see how this exciting season ends and who will be crowned this years Super Bowl champ. I know I have my favorites to win and some I hope that don't. I am sure you do as well.  I am already looking forward to free agency and the off-season as well especially since the Giants missed out. There will be many changes I am sure with players and coaches. And I will be there watching all of it and waiting til next August when training camps and preseason begins.

Bloggers Note: As for my Wild Card Weekend Picks..I am going Texans, Packers, Ravens and Redskins. But I would rather have the Seahawks win.

SPORT CARD COLLECTORS PANINI'S PLAYER OF THE DAY CONTEST #4

2012 Panini Rookies & Stars Football Hobby Box
There are 6 players on the front of the box, from left of Calvin Johnson, Eli Manning, Trent Richardson, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin. Choose ONE player and give us the amount of TD's for only their main category such passing, running, or receiving that player will have WITHOUT going over!! So if for example, RG3 passes for 2 TD's and runs for 1.we are only counting the 2 TD's he passed for since he is a QB and his main scoring comes from passing. This is part 1 of the contest...part 2 is to pick the winner of these five games. But in order to move onto part 2..you must get part 1 right! If you go over on part 1...part 2 will not count unless everyone else doesn't get part 1 right. 0 is an answer for part 1...but remember if they score 3td's that could hurt you in the second part because you will be 3 off when someone else might be closer. But its a risk you could take and it could reward you.

Here are the 5 games:

Dallas @ Baltimore

NYG @ SF

Minn @ Wash

Green Bay @ Houston

SD @ Denver

Panini Adrenalyn XL Trading Card Game:updated with more info!

Do any of you play this game for basketball, football or hockey? (Topps has a version for baseball that I haven't tried)

Its a great concept and something I rather enjoy. It combines 2 of my favorite things. Sport Cards and games. However, I still collect the cards like they are cards sometimes. If I get a good rookie card or a hard to find one those are the ones I collect. The Adrenalyn cards do include Sp's like the Silver Signature Brett Favre version which I own, these type of cards get put elsewhere. They are also hard to find. About 3 per a box if you were to buy a box of this product. Favre is one of the rarer finds.

As for the game, you play it like the real sport. It comes with a game board, rules, a binder to put them into and some packs of the cards. And each player, depending on how good they are, have a value number for their position (if the sport is football each player has a passing and running value for offense and defense) and you follow each sports rules. Its not very hard, but is a ton of fun and addictive if you have a sport fan in your family who you can start a rivalry with.

Here is a quick example of how to play the football version we have pictured:

As you see, If you throw to Calvin Johnson, you would take Tom Brady's pass number and add it to Calvin Johnsons. That gives you a total of....64. You then look at Brian Urlachers pass number and you subtract that from Calvin's number...64-49=15 yards is what you would gain. This is just a basic way to play. You could complicate things some and add on the boost numbers and so on. Its played like real football. You have 4 downs to get 10 yards. You have 4 quarters and each team gets a possession per quarter. Each Team gets 7 players per offense and defense. 2 on each side are reserves. You can also use them as the markers on the side to mark the quarter, down and the line of scrimmage and where the first down is. These are the breakdown of the 2010 game.

Just one more tip, I have found it more efficient if you are playing someone who doesn't know much about sports, if you shuffle the deck of cards before splitting it in half to make your player selection so that way you or they don't get all of the good players.
