Burrow Hunting

*the sun is out on this morning before the storm starts to creep its way in tonight. Coffee, cards and blogging is on the agenda for now. takes a sip and gets onto the post*

If 100 people were in a room just to simply guess who would be facing off in the Super Bowl this year, I would bet all 100 would be wrong. Not only be wrong, but not have a single one of them even breathe the word Bengals in the conversation.

However, here we are. Rams vs Bengals.

With the NY Giants playing this year like the bad version of the Little Giants team if not worse, I had a pretty solid list of teams I didn't want to win in the playoff this year.

I had a reason for everyone of them.
  • Cowboys-Division rival and can't stand their obnoxious fans
  • Eagles-HATED division rival and once again, don't like their obnoxious fans
  • Buccaneers- Who really wanted to see Tom Brady win again?? I mean really??
  • Packers-Aaron Rodgers is a.........well..... you get the point. It was nice to see him struggle and lose
  • Patriots-With or without Tom Brady, I just don't like them
I had a feeling I would have to deal with hating on one of these teams in the Super Bowl, but to my surprise and everyone elses, none of them even made it to the Divisional Championships. So then became the question of....who do I root on?

I chose the Chiefs. Despite how annoying Patrick Mahomes brother can be, Patrick is not. He is a humble Super Star who is fun to watch. He may also be a side PC, but we will talk about that another day. Sadly, the Chiefs didn't pull off the win and the Bengals did. That didn't really affect me too much though, as it's fun to see a team you wouldn't expect in a million lifetimes make it to the big game.

So, for the Super Bowl, I am a Bengals fan. It would be nice to see them finally take home the big one.

*takes a sip before continuing on with today's post*

I have been holding onto a couple of 2020 football boxes for the right moment and figured what moment is better than Super Bowl time that features rookie cards of the Bengals amazing Quarterback Joe Burrow.

The two boxes I had to open was a 2020 Chronicles NFL blaster box and a 2020 Prizm hanger box. I also wanted to point out the new background for these newer photos I will be doing on here. Needs a little tweaking, but they should look cool when I get it right.

The box that had my attention the most was the Prizm hanger, since everyone wants a Prizm rookie of top players. It's THE rookie card to have.

It was a good thought anyways as these were my two best and only rookie finds in the box,

Not that either of these guys are bad players, but the last thing you want to find in a "high end" box is two defensive guys.

With luck down on that break, I turned to the Chronicles where a very nice card was found in the first pack,
A Dynagon silver parallel of Joe Burrow.

Rest of the box wasn't to bad either, I found a couple Jalen Hurts, a couple Tua's, and then the other Top QB from 2020,

Justin Herbert.

The Chronicles break went pretty well I would say, and my Burrow hunt actually landed me one. That doesn't happen too often in a post like this.

*takes a sip before finishing up today's post*

I think this year's NFL postseason games were the best I have ever seen and here's hoping the biggest game of them all will be just as exciting. Say what you want about other sports and Game 7's etc, the NFL has the best playoff system. You only get one chance to win so you give it your all.

I also apologize to the fans of the teams above I hoped to lose if you are reading this, nothing against you...unless your an Eagles or Cowboys fan...even still....I had my reasons and I am sure you have yours as well for teams you despise.

In comments, let me know which team you are rooting on for the Super Bowl and what your favorite Joe Burrow card is? While you are at it, let me know which teams you didn't want to see win.

Cardboard Review:2021-2022 Chronicles Draft Basketball

One of the first looks we get at the upcoming rookie class in the NBA, always starts with a Draft Picks product. Whether that's Prizm, Contenders or today's product, Chronicles.

Chronicles is a product built up of other products all wrapped into one. I think it's a fun concept, but it's not for everyone.

Since I like to get a start on the upcoming rookie class for my rookie card album, I always try to get my hands on new product. I don't always know who the best ones are quite yet, so they usually all stay in one spot until I do. When someone asks me "who should I be looking for?" I always tell them, just look at the cover of the box.

So that's what I did today. Here is a box break of 2021-2022 Chronicles Draft basketball for your viewing pleasure,
In each hobby box of Chronicles basketball, there are 2 packs of 24 cards each. It's much different of a layout than usual. Each box promises 4 autograph or memorabilia cards and you can find boxes currently for $165.

BASE:
The base set has 16-25 card offerings from Donruss Rated Rookies, Chronicles (has its own base set), Hoops Retro, Luminance, Flux, Gala, XR, Essentials and many others. I believe there are 19 in all.

Here are a few examples of the base using the players featured on the box in Cade Cunningham and Jalen Suggs.

PARALLELS:
You can find the following parallels in Chronicles all across the 19 or so "base sets",
Black, Bronze, Green, Orange, Pink, Pulsar, Red /149, Blue /99, Purple /49, Gold /10, Cracked Ice /6, and Platinum 1/1.
My only parallel was this Red Hoops Retro of Evan Mobley numbered to 149.

Without inserts, let's move onto the good stuff.

HITS:
First hit, Tools Of The Trade relic of Scottie Barnes.

Panini Threads Rookie Threads of Sharife Cooper

Score Autograph of Nojel Eastern

And finally, Origins autograph of Romello White.

I don't know any of these names, so you guys will have to tell me in comments if I scored anything big here.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Well, from looking some of the hits up, it appears to be a tough break value wise currently. But, as with any rookies, you just never know who will rise above the occasion. So maybe check back in a couple of years on this break.

As for the product itself, I still like Chronicles, though I prefer the pro sports version more with NBA teams. I like the mix of product designs and selection. You get some basic ones like Score to some artsy ones like Origins to the shiny stuff like Elements. It's a great mix.

One more tweak I would make, I would build this as one big base set with levels of rarity.

In comments below, tell me your thoughts on my break or on the product as a whole.

PACK WARS EPISODE 9

We are back in what could be the finale of this segment.

Let's see if that brings us some luck shall we?
 VS
I finally got my hands onto some 2020 Mosaic through a trade and it will take on a blaster of Chronicles Draft 2021 I found at Walmart.

Let's wage a battle!

Mosaic first...hoping for some fun.

Meh...wasn't as much fun as I expected and now I own 5 of these Jones since many mailed them to me.

Chronicles time,

(nice!)

Lawrence !

Silver Wilson

(surprise auto...defensive player...ugh)

And Kyle Trask to end it. I feel like I keep pulling that guy.

Well....if I was to take a vote here...I would say Chronicles because of the better rookie cards. Mosaic had the shine, but wasn't quite what I anticipated.

Let me know your thoughts and the winner in the comments!

PACK WARS EPISODE 4

When I started this segment, I promised to spread around the love when it comes to different sports and since I hadn't done basketball yet, well, it was all in due time. Though most battles you see on here will be football.

Today, we are in the battle of two 2019-2020 products.

Let's find a Zion!
  VS

The battle is between two hanger packs Chronicles vs NBA Hoops Premium.

First, the Premium,

Chronicles Basketball:

(GREEN PARALLELS)

Well, this one won't be easy to choose from. Nothing outstanding from either break. Do I go the shiny stuff? Or do I go with the one that had the RJ Barrett for my PC?

Let me hear your thoughts in comments!

I Don't Know Who You Are, But I Like You

Long time friend of the blog, Grady M hit me up again with some awesomeness in a box. You have no idea how much I look forward to receiving a mail day from him.

It's always a big-packed-to-the-rim box of inserts, parallels, above the notch shiny goodness that makes you feel you are on a treasure hunt.

Today, I kick off what I expect to be many posts on this box of goodies. It cannot all be captured in one post, impossible.

Today's part of the mail day is soccer. A sport I know absolutely nothing about player wise, but a sport that has some stunning cards which is the main reason I hold onto them.

Especially if they are as shiny as today's cards I am about to show off,

I assume all of these came out of Chronicles, those are some great looking cards. The stars in the background really make them standout.

Merlin the wizard definitely put a spell and made these look amazing.

Life is better with Prizm in it.

Mosaic was so underrated in my opinion in the world of chromed cards.

But cards that look this good, I think they make a name for themselves in the same group as Prizm and Chrome.

Spectra and Select bring the wacky purple shiny to your eyes to dazzle them.

Thanks to Grady for the shiny soccer.

There is plenty more from this box of inserts to show off. Stay tuned!
