CARDBOARD REVIEW:2019 Topps Triple Threads

As I am typing this, the Nationals lead the Astros 2-1 in the World Series. I can't believe that but it's what I want. First time winners is where it's at after the team you wanted to win gets out and the other teams you dislike are already out as well.

Just hoping the Nationals keep it rolling like Topps and their late season releases.

The latest release is one of my favorites, despite my past no success with the product. I just like the cards themselves.

Let's take a look at how I did in a box of 2019 Topps Triple Threads

In every master box of 2019 Topps Triple Threads, there are two mini boxes. Each mini box has it's own version.

Mini Box Version 1

• 1 Autograph Jumbo Relic or Rookie Autograph (/99 or less)
• 1 Triple Relic (/36 or less)
• 3 Base Cards
• 2 Base Parallel Cards

Mini Box Version 2

• 1 Autograph Triple Relic (/99 or less)
• 1 Jumbo Relic (/36 or less)
• 3 Base Cards
• 2 Base Parallel Cards

Full master boxes currently run around $210

BASE CARDS: 

The base set is built up of 100 cards of veterans

 

And legends. No not hit rookies are found in the base set which is a tad disappointing for me. The cards have a very simple but elegant design with extremely thick card. The foil on the card has a rainbow touch to it. I like it and would expect it to be this way for a high end product.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: High end products are tough on me. They look great, but my hits are never superb. And it's not like you can expect one Mike Trout autograph per box or a 1/1 logo patch, it's not how the hobby works. Every part of it is a gamble and this is just a higher one. 

For me personally, I wouldn't ever take a gamble on a box even though it was fun to rip. I am just not a risk taker.The product and its hits though can be amazing as I have seen some of them.

If you want in on a box break without paying box prices, I suggest Midwest Box Breaks as they pull fire as they already did with Triple Threads.

Cardboard Review:2019 Topps Museum Collection (HUGE HIT!!)

BOOOOOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!

That's my thought every time I open a box of Museum Collection. Except normally I don't hear that explosion from my breaks. It's usually, wah, wah, wah.

Well, in 2019 it finally changes so let's see what I pulled and talk about this product shall we?

In each box of 2019 Museum Collection has 4 packs. Each pack has 5 cards and one hit. You should find two autograph and two memorabilia cards per box with one of those autographs being on card. Boxes run currently $200.

The base set looks elegant as always and this years has a touch of foil on the corners. I worry those could lead to chipping. There are 100 cards in the base set to collect including veterans and legends.

You can tell the parallels differences from the border color. There are also Amethyst /99, Ruby /50, and Emerald 1/1.

There is only one insert in this product as it's a hit based one.

Canvas Collection Reprints.that has 50 cards to collect and some of the original sketches can be found as 1/1.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, my box paid off this time unlike past breaks. That's what it's all about when it comes to high end products like this. They can be a gamble which is what I always say about them. But, when they pay off, they pay off. It just depends on how much of a gamble you are willing to take.

That's why I would suggest doing a box break if you can't afford a hobby box and take less of a risk. Not to mention land players from your team. Or have a shot at a random team and maybe get the Blue Jays for a chance at a Vlad Jr.

So when you do decided to jump in on a break for any high end product,  I suggest Midwest Box Breaks as they pull fire!

1991 song by Salt-N-Pepa was about a much different topic than I am turning it into. You see, I am staying on topic with cards. Not,well, what they were talking about. This newest segment about the 90's will focus on my set chases (the ones I have already used for a Origins Post or don't plan on using) and new additions to them along with updates on how far I have gotten.

It's time for us to sit down and have that discussion between your parents and you that you tried to avoid. You know, that conversation you have with them about the Flairs and the Pinnacles. Kids, it's time to Talk About Sets.

So grab a can of Surge and take a seat in the thinking chair and check these out.

In my trade with Julie from A Cracked Bat: Baseball Cards and a Hot Dog, I was able to knock a few more set needs down. Today, it was 1996 Sp Special Fx.


This is a set I didn't collect as a youngin'. It was the power of the hologram that drew me into wanting to chase down this massive set as an adult. Not to mention, you add in the special Fx micro etch technology you have one great looking card. Nobody knew how to make an insert or a base set even more than Upper Deck.


The hobby needs more Upper Deck.

I never bought any of these when I was younger, but I did land a few from yard sale finds and they caught my attention immediately. It also made me feel like an adult carrying out credit cards.

Of course as an adult you realize how evil credit cards really are and that you would only really want to own these instead.

Julie was able to knock three down for me.

Roberto Alomar who I best remember as an Indian.

Manny Ramirez who I best know as a Red Sox player I hated lol.

And Marquis Grissom who I remember most for being a Brave.

REVIEW:2018 Topps Archives Baseball

The fun, the memories and the nostalgia all sums up the Topps Archives brand. Well and The Sandlot.

If that doesn't sound interesting to you, check it out by reading on!

In every box of 2018 Topps Archives baseball, there are 24 packs per box with 8 cards per pack. You will also find 2 autographs per box as well and boxes currently run $80.

The base set captures the designs from 1959, 1977 and 1981 Topps. The base set has rookies, veterans and legends involved as well.

 

There are also throwback subsets in the base set as well.

 

Overall there are 300 cards to collect in the base set. With the subsets adding on as cards 301-320.

There are also base card short prints. None that I pulled or found in my break. Here are the CMP code breakdowns.

• 1981 ends in #320

Parallels are found in every product and not different here.  Parallels include, Purple /175, Silver /99, Blue /25, and Gold Foil 1/1.

 Inserts that can be found in Topps Archives include,

Topps Rookie History. There are 25 cards to collect with 5 short prints. There are also foil parallels and those include, Purple /150, Green /99, Blue /50, Red /10, and Gold 1/1.

1993 Coming Attractions showcasing all of those rookies in 1993 classic design. There are 20 cards to collect.

 

1981 Future Stars throwback insert. 10 cards to collect.

The Sandlot has 11 cards to collect. I got three just need to hunt down the other 8 now.

Now onto the autographs.

There are different forms of autographs to find. Fan Favorites like this Orlando Merced captures those names you collected back then and wanted to see a return of now.

And this Topps Rookie History autograph of Roberto Alomar captured in his rookie card design. This card is numbered to 99.

I really wished to pull a Sandlots autograph for my non sport PC, but can't be picky. It's just the way my breaks have gone this year.

OVERALL: If you have liked Archives in the past, this years won't change your feelings on it. There is a lot of fun to find in here,  like those Sandlot autographs I dream of. The throwback vibe designs and some of the names in the autograph sets bring back those warm feels and that's what this product is truly about.

Sometimes a product just isn't about the money.

BASEically Awesome Part 4: 1995 Sp Baseball

Collectors may differ when it comes to teams and what they collect, but one thing collectors can all agree on is Upper Deck's amazing photography. I haven't found a collector yet who hasn't agreed that they were the best.

Today's BASEically Awesome segment shows just why.

I must also mention before continuing on, even the design is nice. I dig the holographic appeal of blue and red that run down the sides of the cards.

Even Mark agrees with me and is giving them a hand for a job well done.

 

Ray is flipping over the photography and Heathcliff is all smiles.

 

The unique perspective they had taking photos is something that is also catchy. It wasn't just baseball action, it also was the fun off the field or before the game they captured.

Alex is caught signing for fans while Roberto has his inner Richard Simmons coming out.

 

Phil Nevin is ready for lights,camera action while Rod Beck hopes to "punch out" the batters in relief.

 

Steve is snagging a catch to the wall while Doug is staring down the batter.

 

And these are only some of the 207 cards in the base set.

 

The set wasn't known for it's value/popularity like the previous years before it with 1993 and Jeter and 1994 with Rodriguez. But, what it should be known for is what you see above. Baseball fun at it's finest and a set that may be Upper Deck's most impressive for base cards.
