What's In The Mail Box?

Recently I was able to get my hands onto one of the Upper Deck 25th Anniversary sets, I mean what collector wouldn't want to, so I wanted to show it off to you guys just in case you haven't seen them and may want to try to get a set for your own collection.

This is a small set but packs a punch with athletes who have made a big impact on Upper Deck over the 25 years (except I couldn't figure out why Michael Jordan wasn't in it) and will continue to make an impact for them for the next 25.

Now onto the set.  I will start off the gallery first with THE GREAT ONE:

Every back of the card has this written up on them thanking fans for their support:

Upper Deck then put in Super Stars, Peyton Manning, Ken Griffey Jr, Tiger Woods and LeBron James to complete the set
Looks like Peyton just did an audible, well, are we surprised, another TD pass
The Kid looks like one here
Tiger has always made a huge impact on Upper Deck Golf Cards
How many more titles will this guy win?
One of my favorite things about the set is the throwback design paying tribute to Upper Deck's beginning set way back in 1989. It also has a modern day look to it.

I think this set was a  great way to celebrate 25 years of so many things that Upper Deck has brought to the hobby. I hope to see them expand upon this set and maybe do a product with a huge insert set of these to chase.

What's In The Mail Box?

In today's, What's In The Mail Box?, found was an Upper Deck NPN from 2013 Tiger Woods Master Collection. It's a base card #'d to 200. This is a product that was really high end and something I had no chance of affording or owning a card of. So getting a FREE NPN from it is great. Not to mention, it's the legend Tiger Woods.

As always, these Upper Deck NPN mail days are both unexpected and very exciting because you have no clue what you are going to find hidden inside of that envelope.

Fan Mail Day: Tiger Woods Rookie..I finally have one!

There are some really good people in this hobby, we hope we are considered one of them, but a few weeks ago we were talking to @indianagolfpro on Twitter discussing sports cards, his set needs and wants, some great Griffey Jr cards he posted and then Tiger Woods. As our discussion went on I had mentioned having wanted a Tiger Woods rookie. I didn't want anything high end. Just wanted one of the worlds top golfer. And no matter what mistakes he made, we all make mistakes, you have still got to give him that title. He is once again showing it this year so far.

Though I have found some very reasonably priced, I never picked one up and had always regretted not getting one. As our discussion went on, he is a HUGE Tiger Woods fan and collector, he mentioned having 3 or 4 of the Upper Deck rookie cards then offered to mail me one for nothing. I was very thankful and thanked him many times. Then also mentioned he was throwing in a Tiger Tales set also.

Yesterday was a very exciting day as I received the package in the mail and tore right into it like it had been a cheeseburger wrapper. And there it was sitting on top. I reached in and was finally in possession of a Tiger Woods rookie card!!!! Wow!

Here it is:

Under the Woods card was the complete set of Tiger Tales cards. I have chosen a few favorites from the set to show off.

In closing, I am very excited to have added this card to my PC and the others as well. They will sit in a special place. And of course this wouldn't be closing without saying  thank you again to @indianagolfpro for his amazing generosity. We need more people like him in this hobby. And if you have Twitter and are not following him yet, please do so. Talk some sports, talk cards, and most importantly talk some Tiger Woods and golf with him. Great guy!

Preview: 2013 Upper Deck Tiger Woods Master Collection

Coming to a hobby store near you...Tiger Woods in a box. Yep thats right. Upper Deck has decided to take the golf star and box him up for sale....well almost.

If you are a fan of Tiger's and are sitting in a mansion most likely this is a product for you! The cards come as a factory set. There are 80 cards in the base set all in the box along with the following:
  • 1 Piece of Autographed Tiger Woods Memorabilia
  • 2 Additional Tigers Woods Autographs
  • 1 Slambalaya or Masterpieces Signature Card
  • 1 Championship Gear Memorabilia Card
Now obviously with 3 guaranteed Woods autos in a box you know this will run you a few bucks. At this point we have no images or release date known on this product. When we do we will update this post.

This product follows a recently  announced Michael Jordan set we previewed here: http://sportcardcollectors.blogspot.com/2013/03/preview-2013-upper-deck-michael-jordan.html

Let us hear your thoughts in the meantime on this very very high end release.

Yard Sale Pickups....for only $4!!

Here are some key cards I found in a box of cards I bought at a local yard sale. I paid only $4 for the box of random cards. There was mostly baseball, but golf, a few basketball and football and even Bench Warmer cards were there to be found. Overall there were probably about 300 cards. I think I made out well.

I always enjoy adding a Pete Rose

4 Tiger Woods cards and a Justin Leonard Sp Authentic Rookie
The Simpsons rock!
Also got a Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas Topps rookie cards.

What are your thoughts on my pickups and have you ever come across a good bargain deal at a yard sale?

SI For Kids Cards

I don't know how all of you feel about these, but these cards are very collectible. If you go to ebay, you can come across a ton of these for sale. Especially the "rookie ones" of players that haven't played yet.
Andrew Luck's going for around $20

This has been a fad I believe since the 1996 Tiger Woods one. That one is still selling for an amazing amount. I found one on ebay going for $200! This is a magazine you can easily find and buy for either $5 or a subscription for $25 a year.

The one I believe started it all!
If you haven't seen how these cards come...

Full uncut sheets like this one that has a Tim Tebow "rookie" on it can go for $20 or more dollars as well

To be honest, I actually have a subscription to this magazine because of the cards. The reading isn't bad either and SI's photography is always nice to see even in a kids sports magazine, but the cards for me was the main draw. I would consider my 3 year collection in perfect mint condition. The card sheets are still in their magazines. Do I put a value on them? Probably not. But being the collector I am, everything is a collectible. Guess you can call me a Hoarder to some extent. But that's the kind of hoarding I like.
