CARDBOARD REVIEW:2021 Bowman Platinum Baseball Mega Box

I will admit that I didn't watch one single MLB playoff game and am probably the only person who didn't. Just not a fan of baseball anymore but would like to say congrats to the Atlanta Braves and their fans on the win. At least Houston didn't win.

Even though I don't watch baseball doesn't mean I don't collect baseball cards, because I still do. Cards are cards to me and I am still a big rookie card guy. So seeing this rookie class along with the next one in today's prospecting product makes me smile.

Here comes Bowman Platinum that can only be found in retail at Walmart in both blaster and mega box form.

In every box of 2021 Bowman Platinum Mega there are 20 packs of 5 cards each. Boxes run $80 and they also come with two autographs. In today's hobby standards, this is actually a pretty sweet deal looking at the player checklists for autographs.

BASE:

 

The base card set is made up of 100 cards with veterans

and rookies. They have a rainbow foil shine and stick with the basics Platinum has always brought us. Except it feels the cardboard they print on seems to get thinner every year. Maybe they ran over a Gypsy. (don't get the reference, watch the movie thinner by Stephen King)

Just like with Bowman that has rookies and veterans, there is a separate Prospects checklist of 100 cards. Honestly, I would rather have these be apart of the base set. It's my same feelings for Bowman.

PARALLELS:

Bowman Platinum offers the following parallels.

Ice Foil, Foilboard /299, Aqua Ice Foilboard /250, Pink /199, Blue /150, Green /99, Green Icy Foil /99, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /10, and Foilfractor 1/1.

The odds are never in your favor as there are no guarantees you will get a parallel in a box, but they do exist. I pulled a blue /150.

INSERTS:

Platinum Etchings is a tough pull that I didn't know until now. These fall 1:267 packs.

Precious Elements has 30 cards at 1:5 odds.

Renowned Rookies has 20 cards to collect and falls 1:5 packs.

Meteoric falls 1:10 packs and has 20 cards to collect.

I must point out before coming to my overall thoughts that even though I landed two prospect autographs in my break does not mean there are not veteran hits to find. There a big names on the checklist like Trout and Judge to and even relic cards.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

Two autographs, a good amount of cards=success I think. Even though my box didn't provide a big boom, that just means I left those out there for you to find.

REVIEW:2018 Bowman Platinum Baseball Collectors Box

Finally! A product exclusive to only Walmart. If we aren't going to find all products in shops or online stores, I prefer a product to Walmart over Target. Why? Well, I have 0 Targets around me. There will be one soon, the first in my state, but it's over two hours away. That's quite the drive for a retail exclusive card product. Especially if I take the drive and they are sold out.

There are three ways to buy Bowman Platinum. Fat Packs, Blasters and Collectors Boxes. Today we take a look at a Collectors Box. Retails hobby box.

This stuff at one point this year was hotter than Jennifer Love Hewitt in the 90's.

Every Collectors Box of 2018 Bowman Platinum baseball comes with 20 packs of 5 cards each. Each box comes with 2 autographs and boxes run roughly $90.

The base set is 100 cards deep. The set includes players of today and tomorrow. The base card design is quite different. A wavy player-getting-squeezed-out-of-a-tube-of-toothpaste design is the best way to describe it. So this could technically be Crest Bryant ;)

 

There are also Bowman Prospects to chase as well. 100 of those to collect in all. The Gleyber Torres is sadly an error card that features Ronald Torreyes by mistake. Sigh.

 

 

There are also Sp base card photo variations. Luckily the code on the back helps with determining those like in flagship. Codes ending in 264 and variations end in 303.

I pulled two parallel cards in my break. Seager is a green /99 while the orange C.J. Chatham is orange /25 and falls 1:191 packs.

 

Inserts in Bowman Platinum have the following parallels of Purple /250, Green /99, Orange /25, FoilFractor 1/1 and include,

Prismatic Prodigies. The Duplantier is a purple /250. These fall 1:5 packs and there are 40 to collect.

 

Platinum Presence. 20 cards fall 1:10 packs.

 

And Rookie Revelations. These look awesome by the way and are the best designed of this years product by a mile. This would have made a great base card design. There are 20 of these to collect and fall 1:5 packs.

OVERALL: Not a bad break. I actually had fun busting the packs and looked forward to every pack after. I have always been a fan of this product whether it was done in football (Topps Platinum) or baseball and the designs have always been eye appealing.

I didn't hit it too big in this box, but I have seen plenty of other noteworthy breaks. I think it's a winner no matter which platform you decide to open of it. I have seen hits out of the blasters and fat packs.

My First Bellinger

Back when 2017 Bowman Platinum first released, I really wanted my first rookie card of Dodgers Outfielder Cody Bellinger. I collect at least one rookie card of every player but I just couldn't find any Platinum anywhere. I also looked for trading partners including my father willing to give him up and most wouldn't without asking for an arm and a leg and possibly some innards as well.

I know he is a hot rookie at that time, but no way I was going to give up the world to get him. Especially since he plays on a team I don't care much about.

So I saw a contest for a Bowman Platinum rookie from PalmStateSportsCards on Twitter and I jumped on it. There wasn't much requirement for entering other than commenting on their very interesting blog posts so I commented away and seemed to have been the only one who did. Their blog posts are written by a buddy of mine who writes Inception Baseball:A Very Simple Idea blog which made them intriguing to me.

A week later, I found out I was a winner winner chicken dinner and this arrived a few days later....

Breakin Wax:2016 Bowman Platinum Baseball 2-Pack Break

2016 Bowman Platinum Baseball makes it return to cardboard in 2016 after being absent in 2015. The shiny reflective cards however take a new twist as you can only find them at Walmart as I did.

I didn't have quite enough money to splurge on a blaster, but I wanted a taste of some Platinum since I have been a fan of anything Platinum since it came into the hobby. So two packs it was....

In each pack of 2016 Bowman Platinum baseball, you will find 12 cards. 5 will be prospects and more than likely an insert will pop in there to. Packs run around $5 which I thought was a good deal.

Let's take a look at pack #1

 

The base cards have the cool rainbow reflective foil as always catching the eye of this collector immediately. There 100 veterans and rookies to find in the base set.

 

Prospects and rookies have the same design as well. Rookies have the rookie logo of course. The prospects are 111 cards deep and some are Sp's. I think this helps add chase and value to these.

Insert/parallel time!

 

The Lindor is a Bowman's Next Generation (my only knock on the product is using the same design for the inserts and very small writing to differentiate it. These seem to be one-per-pack finds. The Bryant however, is a green parallel that falls 1:31 packs and is numbered to 99.

 

Pack #2 didn't go as well as pack one, I mean how do you beat a Bryant numbered card. Maybe a hit?

 

My Bowman's Next Generation find is Osuana while the Rodgers is a purple parallel that falls 1:40 packs

 

And a tougher pull was my last card in the pack, a Bowman's Next Generation Green parallel /99 that falls 1:101 packs

 

Overall, I think it's a solid buy. I have always felt that way with anything Platinum or Chrome in retail. I always feel my value is returned. Autographs are a bit of a tough pull falling at the lowest rate of 1:105, but not completely out of reach as I have pulled plenty of Platinum retail hits in the past.

 

Bowman Platinum of course is for certain fans and probably not for all. It's definitely for those who like to prospect even though hits are a bit tougher find. It's still fun however to find the shiny-rainbowy base prospects and rookies in packs at least for this collector who isn't always about the hits.

MONSTER TRADE COUNTDOWN CARDS # 9

As you readers know, I am a little bit of a prospecting guy. However, my approach is a bit different then others as I don't just load up on one guy or another, I try to take a look at each and secure myself with at least one card of each player.

One of those players that came out of the woods that I thought I had was Rockies Trevor Story who is taking cardboard by storm. What I didn't realize is that I was missing him til I started this MONSTER TRADE with Project Pedro Blog. No more though! Thanks to Shane I was sent this Bowman Platinum.

And of course we know all about this guy already, I have the jersey card version and when he pulled this in his USA Champions case break I knew I had to trade for it to make the match.

 

 The buildup on this trade continues! I will tell you this right now the Top 3 cards are pretty amazing, at least to me. So let's continue more of this journey to there tomorrow!

Review: 2013 Bowman Platinum Blaster

The glimmer and the shine of Bowman Platinum always grabs my attention and other collector's attentions as well. I like retail version of the product for 1, can't afford hobby right now and 2, it usually gives you your money back plus more and 3, you can sometimes hit an auto or auto/patch in a blaster box. It's not too often you can get a decent hit in a blaster product and this product is one where they odds are favorable.

The product is also rookie based with both prospects, rookie cards and inserts of them. Which is key an any product with the word Bowman.

I feel this blaster did just that.

BASE CARDS: This is a product that to me doesn't need the action photography like others that I crave it from. The glimmer and shine of the base cards does enough to catch my attention. The rainbow appeal is very nice and a base set I would spend time putting together.

I really like the border on these unlike the types of border used in other Topps products. This one is very minimal. I wished Topps would use this type of border for their other products with the action photography. That would drastically change my opinion on some of their MLB line.

INSERTS:The parallels are a thing of beauty just like the base cards as is rest of the inserts. And as you can tell by the odds for each one, we did pretty well with our blaster pulling both a 1:20 Ruby parallel and a Best Bowman Players Of All Time 1:20 insert in only a 8 pack box. Die Cuts are a nice touch as well.

AUTOGRAPHS: NONE (Though pulling some from retail is never out of the question)

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: NONE

OVERALL THOUGHTS: For $20, you will get your money back. You will also get joy in busting the product. I have seen many people hit autos in blaster boxes. Some were big hits. This and Topps Chrome are the only two retail products in blaster form that will provide a big Bam and will provide your moneys worth. As always, I will recommend this product and hope you get Puig from your box. That was our aim but we don't mind seeing Machado either. A nice rookie PC piece.

And with this product being rookie loaded, it's also a buy for future value as well.
