Breakin Wax:2016 Bowman Platinum Baseball 2-Pack Break

2016 Bowman Platinum Baseball makes it return to cardboard in 2016 after being absent in 2015. The shiny reflective cards however take a new twist as you can only find them at Walmart as I did.

I didn't have quite enough money to splurge on a blaster, but I wanted a taste of some Platinum since I have been a fan of anything Platinum since it came into the hobby. So two packs it was....

In each pack of 2016 Bowman Platinum baseball, you will find 12 cards. 5 will be prospects and more than likely an insert will pop in there to. Packs run around $5 which I thought was a good deal.

Let's take a look at pack #1

The base cards have the cool rainbow reflective foil as always catching the eye of this collector immediately. There 100 veterans and rookies to find in the base set.

Prospects and rookies have the same design as well. Rookies have the rookie logo of course. The prospects are 111 cards deep and some are Sp's. I think this helps add chase and value to these.

I will have to go and search to see if I have any

Insert/parallel time!

The Lindor is a Bowman's Next Generation (my only knock on the product is using the same design for the inserts and very small writing to differentiate it. These seem to be one-per-pack finds. The Bryant however, is a green parallel that falls 1:31 packs and is numbered to 99.

Pack #2 didn't go as well as pack one, I mean how do you beat a Bryant numbered card. Maybe a hit?

My Bowman's Next Generation find is Osuana while the Rodgers is a purple parallel that falls 1:40 packs

And a tougher pull was my last card in the pack, a Bowman's Next Generation Green parallel /99 that falls 1:101 packs

Overall, I think it's a solid buy. I have always felt that way with anything Platinum or Chrome in retail. I always feel my value is returned. Autographs are a bit of a tough pull falling at the lowest rate of 1:105, but not completely out of reach as I have pulled plenty of Platinum retail hits in the past.

Bowman Platinum of course is for certain fans and probably not for all. It's definitely for those who like to prospect even though hits are a bit tougher find. It's still fun however to find the shiny-rainbowy base prospects and rookies in packs at least for this collector who isn't always about the hits.

What are your thoughts on Bowman Platinum this year? You try any? And what do you think of a retail exclusive product?

Break And Review Of Collector Crate Football Silver Level Box

It didn't take long for word to spread on the hobby's next big thing and it didn't take me long to look into it. This new and brilliant idea is called CollectorCrate. CollectorCrate is a subscription service offering a surprise mystery box of sports cards delivered to your door every month. There are currently three levels and three sports (NFL,MLB, NBA) to buy from and here they are:

Bronze: $29.99
GUARANTEED TO INCLUDE:
10 Random Packs (Low-Mid End)
1 Random Game Used Card
1 Random Autographed Card
Bonus Items

Silver: $69.99
10 Random Packs (Mid End)
2 Random Game Used Cards
2 Random Autographed Cards
Bonus Items
Gold: $99.99
10 Random Packs (Mid-High End)
3 Random Game Used Cards
3 Random Autographed Cards
Bonus Items

I think this is a really neat concept so I really wanted to see what the next big thing is all about.

So today, I am breaking a Silver level football CollectorCrate. Tomorrow I will be doing a Gold. I will admit right off that it was really fun to open to see what was inside.

Silver sticker found on the side marking it as a silver level

When you open the box...

The card packs. These are just as important and as much fun as the bubble wrap. Man, do I love that stuff!

Besides the card packs and hits you get in a box, you also get some bonus items.

I got a Foam Finger, Small pro figure, a Dolphins dog tag, and something I found really cool, a table top football piece. Never seen one. That will save me a lot of time on folding paper.

And the final bonus items are a Cowboys small pennant (ugh) and a Seahawks decal

Now onto the bubble wrapped items. Hobby packs! Great stuff and great variety of years as well. These are actually my favorite brands.

Mystery envelopes were in the bubble wrap as well with the random hits inside..let's open these up first!!

The first envelope had two Jersey cards. Love the Strahan. What are the odds that the two jersey cards I pulled are the two teams playing tomorrow?

The second envelope had two autographs. A combination of decent tight ends.

Now onto the pack hits, inserts and rookies.

Bridgewater rookie from Finest

BOOM! Sweet looking card and pull here from Topps Prime!
Now that everything is open, the question is, was this worth the purchase? Quick answer, I think so. The hobby packs alone with my rough estimation and research came to around $45. The NFL items if you have ever been to NFL Shop online, you know even a simple key chain is almost $10. So with that many items, you know there is value there. Then you take into consideration your four hits and I think you have great return for what you pay. That's not even putting in the fact about the bubble wrap again! Like I said, love that stuff.

I think the fact that I pulled a hit in a pack shows also that they don't feel out the packs giving you straight up garbage either. So not only do you have a chance at getting possible big hits from the packs, but I also believe the quality of packs you receive are worth it as well. I mean, who doesn't love Chrome? I must also point out the fact that these are delivered straight to your house so you are not paying gas to go pick up some stuff. These are also great for those of us who don't have a hobby shop nearby but want to open some hobby. Finally, it's a mail day. Who doesn't love a mail day? Especially one that's guaranteed monthly.

In conclusion, I recommend trying out CollectorCrate. You can check out their website and more about them right HERE . I think this really could be the hobbies next big thing and I can't wait to see more from them.

********** HEADS UP**********
It seems as if Collector Crate no longer exists. Please hesitate at this moment from ordering from them even though their site seems live. They are not responding to customers via email, Twitter, Facebook and by phone. I will keep this post up so you can see what they were once about. If any further details come to light, I will update this post again with new information. As always, I try to keep you informed on what is going on in the hobby.

HOBBY TOPIC

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic: The Prices Of Packs and Boxes

Has the price increases on packs and boxes pushed you away from buying them? Do you only buy singles now? What prices do you find reasonable (also think about what the companies must pay to get the players to sign for them and to acquire memorabilia pieces)

Let's hear your thoughts!

Panini's Fathers Day 12 Pack Break 2013-6 Hits!

Well, here are my results from 12 2013 Panini Father's Day packs. And I must say I am overly impressed. Last year I broke about the same amount and came home empty handed. This year...well...the odds favored me as I hit something 1 in every 2 packs!!!

Enough with me rambling..here are my amazing results!

I really enjoyed the base cards from the product. Brought me back a few years to when I first started collecting with the inclusions of Studio and Pinnacle. The other base design was well done as well.

I was stunned to say the least when I found a Ice of Anthony Davis to end all of my breaks. The Pro Bowl cards are pieces of Pylon. The Bernards are unique with The Knights Lance faded in the back drop. The Marshall Faulk I believe is a piece of shoe or glove. All of these are headed straight for the PC.

Once again, Panini did a great job with this years Father's Day promo. I look forward to 2014's.

Let me know your thoughts on my Father's Day hits and how you did with yours if you got to bust some.

Review: Panini Father's Day packs

I was lucky enough to get my hands onto 10 of these. I didn't hit it very big like I have seen others do...but the cards were for free and they still look nice!

 Packs: Silver and shiny. Yay!

Base Cards: Nice touch of silver.

Inserts: The Elements inserts are cool showing what elements the players play in. And the 2 red inserts above are numbered to 499.

This is a short review. The base cards look nice, the inserts look nice, and if we had actually pulled something from the 10 we busted the jerseys and autos are really, really sweet!! There were 2 cards per pack, so overall we ended up with 20 cards but we showed the best we got. But cards that were free with purchase, can't argue with these. They made a already great Father's Day even better.
