Let's Talk About Sets Volume 38:1996 Spx Racing Complete Set

Boom! Another day, another Spx set knocked down. Once again I got this in a trade with my buddy @90sNicheFBcard as a full complete set. So much easier to do these sets that way and is definitely more cost affordable then adding one card at a time.

The NASCAR sets for Spx are much smaller than the other sports as they only have 25 cards in the set.

I did good at capturing these. What's creepy with Dale's is the appearance of his head behind his head like he his ghosting over his shoulder. One is to guess Upper Deck didn't lay this out right.

And I tried to til this one right for you guys to see as well.

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 4:BEST OF THE REST!

Here were some odds and ends. These didn't have enough of one or the other to warrant a seperate post on so I combined them into one. There are a few cards missing such as Star Wars and a Wrestling one, but that's because the pictures got deleted by mistake. But wanted to at least take note on those.

Reader's Mail Day Part 6 Of 7: A Little This, A Little That

In the next to last part of my Grady M mail day, I found as the title states, a little of this and a little of that. There wasn't too much of one or the other so that's why this group of cards found themselves together.

A few NASCAR cards. This was just a sad reminder of how much I miss Press Pass.

Acetate! Clearly I enjoyed these.

A couple rookie inserts. Mack is a beast!!

Red camo parallels in Certified. Some big names including "can't be stopped" Julio Jones, Megatron,  Eddie I will plow you over Lacy, D-Train and Steve Smith Sr. who is in his final year. Too bad Baltimore wasn't a better team this year.

Three out of the four Griffey's here are new. The only double, the Stadium Club, was probably one of my most favorite base cards adds in 2015. I am always excited to add more Griffey's to the PC.

Some great additions to my PC, which you can tell has a good sized range.

The finale of my Grady M. mail day is tomorrow. Let's just say it would attract bugs with all of it's shininess. I am hoping ti attracts just as many readers :)

Review: Press Pass FanFare Racing 2013

BASE CARDS: Press Pass has always been very impressive with their NASCAR products and there are not many Press Pass Racing product I don't like in terms of creativity and design. I like this design cause in NASCAR there are not too many action shots you can get with racers so most pictures are taken of the drivers themselves. So with most portraits you want to get an impressive frame for them. And Press Pass did just that here.

The 100-card base set features the best of Nascar Sprint Cup Series, Nascar NationWide Series, and the Nascar Camping World Truck Series. 

 

INSERTS:Press Pass sticks with their basics and to foilboard One of their favorite things to do with their inserts. The designs are not bad either. And you get about one insert, sometimes two, per pack. There is nothing wrong with sticking with something you are good at.

Really loved this pull! Sweet patch piece!

This prime piece with an R we thought was awesome. Not to mention with his name being Ryan, this was a bonus.

AUTOGRAPHS:  Some sweet prime swatches used in the auto memorabilia cards. The Truex is cool, but that Newman with the R in it was definitely an eye getter. All of the autographs we pulled from the box are also on-card. In each box you will land 4 autographs. Overall, there are four levels of FanFare Autographs to collect.

 

 

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: The many pieces that Press Pass uses in their racing cards is an automatic win. They are very creative using Sheet Metal, Shirts, Hats, and many more. Most of these pieces you can see have been used and you will not question the authenticity. And most of the pieces are very unique and prime. Look at the Austin Dillion above..very cool.

The design is very balanced. Not too much player. Not too big of writing. And not too much blank space. It is split up into thirds perfectly making for a nice memorabilia design that other companies should take note of.

This years FanFare also has the return of Rookie Stripes featuring autographed Rookie Tape cards from Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and also has Magnificent Materials JUMBO cards featuring an oversized swatch of memorabilia.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: You don't have to be a HUGE NASCAR fan to appreciate Press Pass racing cards. Design is nice. Memorabilia is creative. And on card autographs. Once again, another big Press Pass racing winner that reaches the checker flag.

Each pack of 2013 Press Pass Total Memorabilia Racing will run you about $20 a pack depending on where you buy them. Each pack comes with a hit and a few inserts.

Now onto the hits!

The one thing you gotta love about NASCAR cards than any other is the many different pieces you can use in memorabilia cards. The Kyle Busch above has both a CAR COVER and a FIRESUIT. Pretty cool!

And of course NASCAR wouldn't be NASCAR if you didn't include some sheet metal and tires onto the cards. a pretty cool sheet metal swatch that appears to us is off from his hood where the blue M&M is.

Review: 2013 Press Pass Total Memorabilia Racing

Totally dug this product. If you are a NASCAR fan you have got to give this a go. 'Even if you know nothing about NASCAR give it a try. And its like opening up a Christmas present. You unwrap the first layer. Open the box. Then you have got to open the team bag to get to the contents. You never know what can be hidden within!!

Here are our thoughts:

- One Memory Lane Insert
- One Smooth Operators Insert
- One Authentic Race-Used Memorabilia, Rising Stars Autograph, or Signature Collection Autographed Memorabilia Book Card
-$100 a box
-5 Packs Per Box, 9 Cards Per Pack

BASE CARDS:The base cards have a high end feel to them. I like the design as its action photography and the rookies in the set (Rising Stars) are in a subset form and do not match the rest of the base design which is a great thing. The fact that they are appealing as well helps with the card being outlined in silver edges and writing of Rising Stars in Silver staring out at you from the cardboard.

INSERTS: There are parallels, one per pack, Davey Allison remembrance cards, one per pack, and two other nice looking inserts in Memory Lane (childhood picture) and Smooth Operator very shiny. Overall, Press Pass did a great job with the inserts in this product.

AUTOGRAPHS: I really dig this card. They took the Rising Stars (made it gold instead of silver), embedded an auto in it. The only thing I think this card could use help on was where the authentication sticker was placed. They put it over the auto. I think something like that should have been put on the back of the card. Maybe even behind the autograph. And the fact that it doesn't cover the whole box is kind of distracting as well. But overall, a nice gold design and a very thick card.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:NASCAR and Press Pass put together probably the best memorabilia cards on the market. Its not just a fire suit anymore. They used gloves (which you can see a stain on), sheet metal, shoe, its amazing! These cards are like twice the thickness of a filler card. The design is excellent.Very very impressed!

OVERALL THOUGHTS: If this product was just based on look alone, I would recommend you go buy it(not that I wouldn't anyway. The memorabilia swatches that you can tell were used in races is as authentic and cool as it gets). But its based on value per box for most. The price and what you pull in this box was a little iffy. Don't know if full value was returned or not with the drivers we got. It could be close however.. But some boxes we have seen packed a big punch. Booklet cards can be found in this product and they are too a thing of beauty. Most of the breaks we have seen were mostly memorabilia laden and no autos. That must be hence the name. I still think there is value to be found within boxes of this product. And if you can buy it by pack, try that first. You just never know...
