REVIEW: 2016 Cryptozoic The Walking Dead Season 4 Part 1 (BONUS HIT AND AUTO GIVEAWAY)

So I only have a few minutes to get this review out to you. I know they are coming and I don't wanna be the next victim....I wanna stay one of the survivors...
In every box of 2016 Cryptozoic The Walking Dead Season 4 Part 1, you get 24 packs with 5 cards per pack. There should be one wardrobe and one on-card autograph per box. Boxes run, like I might have to do soon as the dead are coming into view, $85.
The base set design is nice one with full color photography that captures images from season 4.

There are 72 cards in a base set and you should complete that set in one box.

Now onto the inserts, you should complete each set. I was a bit disappointed that Cryptozoic did not include silver foil parallels for inserts.
These are Character Card inserts. They fall 1:3 packs and are telling you about each main character.

Posters fall 1:6 packs and showcase images you may see on a poster to draw you into the show.

Puzzle Cards that fall 1:3 packs and in the end all 9 cards create...

This nice piece! I always enjoy Cryptozoic's puzzle cards.

Cryptomium parallels probably fall one-per-box like the rest of the products they run or 1:24 packs. This one appears to be of the puzzle piece above.

Now onto the hits. On average there should be one wardrobe and one autograph per box, I pulled a bonus hit in mine. There are also prop cards too that fall at the same rate of 1:24 and are pretty cool.

I pulled key characters as my hits in Rick and Carl Grimes. I really like the design/layout of these as well.

Now onto my autograph. It's on-card like all of their autographs in products are and mine is of Dr.S who is played by Sunkrish Bala.

Key autograph signers in the set are:
  • Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes
  • Jose Pablo Cantillo as Caesar Martinez
  • Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon
  • Kyla Kenedy as Mika Samuels
  • Greg Nicotero, Co-Executive Producer
  • Sunkrish Bala as Dr. S.
  • Scott Wilson as Hershel Greene
  • Chad L. Coleman as Tyreese Williams
  • Emily Kinney as Beth Greene
  • Brighton Sharbino as Lizzie Samuels
  • Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier
  • David Morrissey as The Governor
You can find rest of the checklist, HERE.

You can also find stunning Sketch cards (1:1006 packs) and Printing Plates (1:691 packs).
Overall, before I lose consciousness from being chewed on, I think the product is pretty solid for the price. Base set, insert sets, one on-card autograph and one wardrobe card not to mention possible bonus hits. It's the same price you would pay for a sports product with this amount of hits. Except the values of these never go down.
It also helps that the product looks nice.

Okay, now time for you to find out how to win this autograph:

  1. Pros: Strong autograph checklist.

Cons: Small swatches for the relic cards.

Question: Is this the season with Carl eating the pudding? If so, is there a pudding can relic?

  2. Very cool product I think. Never have got in on these products before but I have been tempted by the breaks I have seen of them.

  3. I'm a fan of the show and have thought about collecting theses sets. Thanks for posting the review. I like the fact that you can complete a base set with one box...that's a huge selling point for me.

  4. Cool box! Nice relics! I've bought a couple of packs of previous seasons because i wanted cards to send ttm. Haven't gotten any back yet that I sent, but that's okay. I think the autos look great. Nice space on the card for the auto and the fact that they are on card autos is fantastic. Not sure if it's the same with this season of cards, but seems like I remember the picture on the card not always matching up really well with what was being written about on the card. That's the only thing that I remember from seeing them in person that i would change and again, maybe it was just a couple that I happened to get in the previous season and it's better now.

  5. Pros: very strong autograph list
Cons: I know Cryptazoic did this too with TWD, but why break each season into two parts? Little annoying, but just a personal preference

  6. Pros: Love anything The Walking Dead related.
Cons: For the price point I would expect 2 autos & 1 mem, especially since not #'d.

  7. Thanks to Cryptozoic and SCC for the review. I am a big fan of the on card autograph content. I don't like that Topps is now involved with the Walking Dead cards and hate to see how they will inevitably screw them up. It was nice while it lasted!

  8. Cool cards! Love the show just haven't gotten any of the cards yet! Love the character bio inserts! Also the puzzle cards are a great way to get the buyer to buy more to finish the pic. Kinda wish the scetch cards weren't so rare! Thanks guys!

  9. Pros are that every box packs ALOT of value in it and the inserts have great artwork. The cons are that for $85 you can get a few different boxes that will have more resale value in them. In my opinion all of these cards are really for the dirt hard fan. I don't see people doing case breaks. What I would change is that I would leave it with Cryptozoic and not Topps. Also I would personally change the relic cards and make them much bigger. They go through a ton clothes on that show.

  10. My two boys, ages 11 and 14, are huge fans of this show. Me on the other hand am having a hard time getting into it. I watch a few of the episodes with them but not a favorite show of mine to watch. I would rather spend the $85 on a sports product but I am sure that my boys would rather bust open a box of this. I do like that there are two hits per box on average and that one of them in an on card autograph. I don't think that I would change much with this product as it is a pretty well rounded box of cards.

  11. this year's box season 4 part 1 is a hit love the photos on the cards a good list of autographs to pull and silver and gold numbered inserts the wardrobe cards came out with small pieces a downer but I pulled a nice auto of the Governor numbered to 125. Also pulled a Rick Grimes gold insert numbered to 25. my favorite part is pulling my favorite characters starting from Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus or Michonne. Also the trill of pulling a special prop piece from the show would make my day. Thanks Cryptozoic for being the official product for the Walking Dead. flavio at fnarde@ahoo.com

  14. Great looking cards in my opinion. Great list of names for the autos....as far as the relic cards. Well, I was hoping to see bigger swatches, maybe auto/mem combos, or perhaps booklet autos like a "RIP Graveyard" autographed booklet with past cast members?

Other than wild dreams, this set seems pretty good, I'd say a score of 8 out of 10? :)
