More Eli's Arrived Part 2

As I posted the other day, there was even more Eli's to post about from my latest trade with Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday fame. 

Today is the biggest chunk and most exciting of the group, not that all Eli adds aren't exciting.

Let's take a look at the second half of my Eli additions,

I may not have left you with a surprise on who the final player was to be featured in my massive mail day from reader Grady M, but I didn't tell you that it would be the next day's post either.

SURPRISE!

Even though I don't outright chase him like I did in the 90's, Ken still remains my biggest PC and a player I will take cards of I don't have still. Most of my newest adds of Ken come from Shane from Project Pedro blog and Grady.

 

There weren't too many adds to the Griffey PC with this mail day, but three is three and I will still need to do a much needed number count update on my Griffey collection.

Plenty more to show off from this mail day from Grady. So stay tuned!

Ever Feel Like You Are Being Watched?

 

I have tried to look away...but I can't. They keep looking at me. I keep waiting for their eyes to follow my every move when I am in my card room.

 

These cards are simply....creepy. 

I get what Panini was trying to do with these with mocking T206, but they didn't quite turn out the way they should have. Every one of these cards is either spooky or a Caption This card moment waiting to happen.

Is this Aaron Judge or a gangster from the 1920's? Maybe a model?

It appears George got into the "good stuff"

Nolan appears he has seen a ghost or the Otahni card watching him.

And finally, Jose Aluve is about to join up with Marv and rob some kid who is Home Alone. Probably looking for their trashcans.

These inserts are from 2020 Diamond Kings and are rightly named DK206. There are 20 cards to chase for the set and each features similar pictures to these. The checklist is mix of legends and players of today. So if you're looking for a good time or a blog post to use as a Caption This, these work perfectly.

Grady Judged Me

Remember when I said on Saturday that Sport Card Collectors long time reader Grady M sent me a bunch of player cards for my PC's? Well we will continue with the next player today.

My Aaron Judge PC took a nice leap with today's additions thanks to Grady and currently sits at 160 different cards or so. Though I may need a recount on it again just like this years election as I may have missed a few.

I think that Topps Opening Day was one of the last baseball products I reviewed on here this year, that says a lot about 2020. It's been one big disappointment. I really miss doing more giveaways.

Topps Fire National Baseball Card Day

In the right kind of mind, though they didn't win the World Series this year like most expected. Especially the way they started out this short Covid season.

Fire! I didn't get any Topps Fire this year so it's nice to see some up close. Interesting design as always. For me it's about the colors.

Bowman was a HOT product when it released with Jasson Dominguez to be found. Only problem was, you couldn't find Bowman. I lucked out and was able to open one fat pack and that was it. Since that one fat pack didn't have a Judge, at least now I have one.

Mythical....goes well with cards in 2020. They are mythical creatures you can't find in retail.

Big League has some great action shots, I almost like Big League design and photos better than flagship. Shhhh..don't tell anyone.

I did get to open some Allen and Ginter this year, no hobby, but a few retail offerings. No Judge to be found though so this will fill in that gap.

You guys will hate me for this I bet, but sometimes I wonder and wished Panini had a piece of the MLB license. This is a creative colorful card even without a logo is a masterpiece. The picture of Judge with his head turned helps as well.

I will end with a fist bump to Grady for the help with these new Judge additions. A couple more players coming up along with more from his massive insert laden mail day.

Sets Of My Childhood THE SERIES! Part 17:1994 Donruss Diamond Kings

Sets Of My Childhood THE SERIES is a spinoff from just a want list. I decided not only would I make a want list of each of the sets I am chasing in a tab, but I thought a little breakdown and feature may help get me more set help. I am sure many of the sets I am seeking are nickel and dime type of cards so I am hoping my trader friends can be on the lookout for any I don't have.

Okay, okay. Today's Sets Of My Childhood post isn't telling the truth. Honestly, I never chased the Donruss Diamond Kings set from 1994. Not even a single card. However, since I got myself into the hobby that year and the fun design it represents, I threw this as apart of my series.

Today's insert fell 1:9 packs of 1994 Donruss. They were split into two series just like the set was. As with most of the paintings like these back in the day, they were done by the famous Dick Perez. He is even included in this set.

The design is simple. Artist drawn front, but it's the colors and the shine from the Diamond Kings word that is the biggest draw in for me for this specific set vs others like it.

I somehow put together a good handful of this 30 card set and now just need to finish it.

Top Shelf Hits!

I haven't been in a box break in over three years so time was due that I would try one out again. With so many options out there and new breakers daily, there were plenty of choices to choose from. But, for me the choice was a bit simpler. I wanted to go with someone I knew for a bit, someone who was trustworthy, and someone who had a good following that gives back to the hobby. That breaker or as they call themselves, the card concierges is Top Shelf Breaks.

I also think for the first time I sat down and watched each break I was in and was fairly entertained. I have been in 4 breaks overall and scored 3 out of 4 times. The one lonely loss was 2017 Donruss baseball box break. Loss just means I didn't pull a numbered insert or hit which is what they ship.

One of my break shipments haven't arrived yet, so here are the first two I did well with.

I first was in a box of 2017 Contenders Draft football that scored me this auto of Adam Shaheen who was drafted by the Bears in the 2nd round to be their TE. Not bad.

 

My other two hits I landed in was in a 2017 Diamond Kings baseball divisional break. I owned both the NL East and the AL West which landed me both of the hits in the box.

Barreto wasn't someone I had heard of, but a nice looking card still.

 

However, the crown jewel to my breaking was this card. Sweet Diamond Cuts auto card /49 of Gary Carter. Cards even sicker in person. This is my first cut auto I own so pretty stoked about that.

Products We Miss...Oversized Donruss Diamond Kings

Diamond Kings in general are a miss in this hobby. Panini has revived them a little but I think if they were to get a MLB license they may bring back some of the great things Donruss had to offer.

This version of Donruss Diamond Kings were done in 1993 and included in boxes of Donruss as box toppers.
