In the trading card world, mistakes can be made.

They are made by collectors like us and they are also made by the manufacturers.

Back in 2012, Panini made one of those mistakes and it took me a few years to catch it.

What appeared to be a Rueben Randle autograph pull from a pack I opened turned out to be a mistake.

That mistake was not noticed by me until a few years later when someone sent me a RAK with another copy of the card in it. This is Randle's signature.

Turns out the autograph I pulled was actually of 2012 Giants first round Draft Pick David Wilson and not that of Rueben Randle.

Here are the cards side by side for comparison.

It's an honest mistake and a fun collection piece for myself. Nothing I am going to have fixed or complain about like some collectors would.

I also own the real David Wilson Momentum autograph rookie auto as well and wonder if there is a Randle autograph on a Wilson card. If I ever find one and if it even exists, I would pick it up for this set. I mean that Randle autograph had to go somewhere right?

$25 A Week Challenge Week 2:Pop Goes The Funkos

Welcome back to the second week of my newest segment. I hope you enjoyed the first.

I mentioned last week that this series could be full of surprises, meaning you never know what I am going to pick up which week. With a PC full of cards, toys and who knows what, you never know what you will see on here today.

While searching for some Power Ranger figures I wanted to add, I stumbled upon some Funko Pops for an incredible price. I was kind of hesitant at first whether I wanted to hit the purchase button and let them sit in my cart for awhile, but looking at the prices I landed them for and it came via FedEx for Free Shipping....YES FREE SHIPPING. I just couldn't say no.

I was able to snag the Yellow Ranger for $3.80

The Red Rangers for $4.75

and the Blue Ranger for $4.75. These are not like the original rangers, well the picture on the front of the box is, but the figures themselves are glittery see through. Still pretty cool. I need to locate the final two now. I bet I won't land them for that price though.

After landing those cheap. I went cheap Saquon looking. Grabbed this one for $1.35

  

The next one, a Variation from 2019 Donruss, I got for $1.50

 

And this Absolute Memorabilia foil insert for $1.49

 

Before Darius Slayton got hot, his cards were dirt cheap. I grabbed this one for $3.96 and that includes shipping. These metal cards are pretty slick.

And the final snag was this 1998 Playoff Momentum retail pack for $3. I did an auction for this one as the person listing it labeled it as 1997 Fleet football pack. Not sure how I stumbled on it but it was a good deal to me.

Today's grand total....drum roll......is..$24.55. Not too shabby and we stayed under $25.

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 19:Double Sweetness

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Today not only marks the 19th post of this series, but it also marks my wife and I's 14th anniversary. So I guess I could have called this post Triple Sweetness.

But, when you think of the word Sweetness if Walter Payton doesn't come to mind first (I mean it's second to me because of my wife), then you haven't ever seen him run.

Up to this point I didn't own anything but a few newer base cards of Walter Payton and really wanted to change that. I am still in the need for his rookie card too but it's out of my league to buy.

So I got these two that are numbered in the trade. I really like the Gold Label one (wished my picture had come out better).

The Card Bin: What Did I Find This Time?

I really enjoyed doing this post over at The Card Bin blog and I wasn't just going to leave you all hanging with it. So without further ado, another post from The Card Bin, which is what I call this this tote right here:

 

I think most of us collectors have that one place we store all of our extra cards that are not PC related. This is where I stick mine. I also use this as a once-in-awhile dig through to bring back memories or for a just for fun experience. I will start posting cards from this bin to show you what's hiding in there. I honestly have no idea what is in there, I only know its autographs and memorabilia cards from the past 14 years. So this should be fun for both you and I!

What's In The Mail Box?

 

Two more autographed cards have been added to the Rueben Randle PC via eBay. They arrived just the other day as a lot I picked up at a deal. Momentum is one of my favorite brands so  finding Randle was a must. I wasn't so sure about the Press Pass Sports Town auto til I got it in person. You can't see it in this pic, but it's got a beautiful rainbow shine. Just a really nice card.

Review: Panini Momentum Football 2013

First off, I would like to say thanks to the WONDERFUL people at Panini America for providing us with this box to review. Here are many places you can find Panini America: official site, blog, Twitter, and Facebook. If you don't follow them at all..you should! They talk to you on Twitter, have contests on their blog and Facebook and the site is also fun to visit!

Box Break Down:

• 10 Packs Per Box, 6 Cards Per Pack
• Ten Autographs or Memorabilia Cards Per Box
• Find at least Five Autographs Per Box
• Ten Rookie Cards Per Box
• Studs insert returns featuring authentic diamonds
• Around $180 per box

                       

BASE CARDS: Panini continues to improve on their products with every release. This time they improved a much needed base card design in Momentum. They added a nice bottom border that doesn't fall flat with some foil and some team color at the top. Just a little added color gives these base cards more of an appeal than last years. I like the team name, position, number and how much the name stands out on these as well. Last year they had the team name in pretty big writing at the top of the card taking the focus off from the player name.I feel this is more cleaner and organized.

The inclusion of base card rookies is a plus as well.

 

INSERTS: We landed two parallels in our box. A Gold foil that is numbered to 99 and a rainbow foil to 49. I have always been a fan of parallels especially numbered ones.

 

AUTOGRAPHS:  (plus a jersey card that somehow snuck into the pics) We landed 6 autographs out of 10 hits in our box which is a great. The three-swatch Rookie Signature RPS rookie cards numbered to 399 or less are much more impressive this year with the addition of rainbow foil and a full-body image. I like also that it's done in landscape design.

You can also look for Class Reunion Combo/Triple/Quad multi-signed cards that bring together players drafted from the same year and 2013 Rookie Team Threads that's multi-swatch and may also include autographs.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: The jersey cards in momentum are unique. No single size swatches other than the Upside Jumbo, but come on, it's jumbo. They all are done well in terms of design. We like the fact that the Rookie Team threads come in different numbers of threads as you see above of 2 and 4. There are also Prime pieces in these and autograph versions to find as well.

Something we didn't find in our box was an incredible "memorabilia" piece in STUDS. This card showcases an authentic diamond embedded into each card of an NFL..well..stud. We among other collectors really liked that addition to the product last year. You can also find Double/Triple Feature Material showcase dynamic duos and trios from your favorite teams. Also find prime versions #'d to 49 or less.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Each 10-pack box of 2013 Momentum Football will deliver 10 autograph or memorabilia cards (with at least five autographs guaranteed), 10 Rookie Cards and one parallel.Our box had 2 parallels, 4 memorabilia cards, 10 Rookie Cards, and 6 of the 10 hits are auto's. Some positives about the product are the better designs. The inclusion of top rookie cards in the base set and not just as auto/memorabilia cards. Having the hit per pack potential that could provide a wow. The down sides are the autograph hits. For the second year in a row you can usually land one decent autograph then a bunch of lesser known rookies. That is a tough pill to swallow when you are paying close to $200 a box. But, I guess that's what you get when a company has to get 10 hits in a box. You can't just give away 5 EJ Manuel or Geno Smith autograph cards in every box either or companies wouldn't make money and not to mention if you get all of the star autos in every box it will drive down their auto values.

This years break was much better than last years however by a mile. The memorabilia cards are of future stars and not of nobodies or just lesser known vets. We actually got two decent autographs in Lacy and Mathieu and the other autographs I had at least knew the names of. Last years was awful with the best card of the box being an autograph/mem of Ryan Broyles. From what I have seen, most boxes provide a decent break but you still will have those lesser known rookie autos.

Panini Gaining Momentum For The 2013 Football Season

10 packs....10 autographs or memorabilia cards with 5 autographs guaranteed...I would say that Panini is gaining Momentum in releasing Momentum Football into their 2013 NFL lineup.

Last year Panini brought back this early 2000's product and as always when they bring back a product they add a Panini twist to them.

  

The base card design is very similar to last years with the Momentum symbol behind the brightly colored player that is printed on white cardboard. If it is exactly like last years this will also be a thick card stock. I really like the thick base cards like this with colorless borders. Leads to less and less chipping.

   

I think this layout and design for the rookies in this years product are much better than last years. The player off to the left with the pieces and autos on the right stand out. Last years had the player "sitting on top" of the jersey pieces and autographs. This design is much more classier for a high end release.

 

I really like this idea. Brings back autos from players you might not see very much on cardboard now a days. Such as Charles Woodson and Fred Taylor and group them with their draft class. The combinations should be impressive and I can't wait to see who they combined on these. There are triple and quad autos of these.

The 2013 NFL Panini products seem to be more and more impressive as more and more images being released. Soon Score Football will kickoff the NFL Football card season followed by Prestige, Elite, and Momentum in Late July. Though this years rookie class may not be impressive yet, the cards at least for the upcoming season should be.

Here is the final of the FOUR Christmas present breaks I got to do early! This was my first go at Momentum football. I was impressed by the cards...just not by who and what I got for the price you pay. Here is the gallery of a box break!

Didn't think I even came close to getting my money back on this break. I do like the design of the cards and the thickness of these are like no other.I have been wanting to give this product a try because of its design and hit possibilities. It may not show in my box but there are some great pulls to be found in this product. Had to rate this break a little low for cost vs return.

Overall I got some great boxes for Christmas. I didn't mind opening them really early.  Here is what the four were again,  Momentum, Crown Royal, Rookies and Stars, and Totally Certified if you missed any of them just go to the Box Breakers tab at the top of the blog. I enjoyed the products and they were fun breaks. Wished and hoped I could have done a lot better. But hey, it just was my luck lol. Maybe next year.
