One of my yearly purchases, usually in the form of retail, is Topps Allen and Ginter.

There is just so much fun packed into one of these boxes that I can't help but enjoy a bust. From sports stars to oddities to celebs, this product is refreshing pack to pack.

For I believe my first hobby break of it, I may have done one other, this box was packing and it was packing full of goodness.

Let's take a look:

In every box of 2016 Topps Allen And Ginter you will find yourself emerged in 24 Packs with 8 Cards Per Pack. There are 3 hits in which you could pull a combo of the following:
- Autographs
- Relics
- Originals
- Book Cards
- Cut Signatures
- Rip Cards
- Ancient Rome Relics featuring real Roman coins

And one box topper. Boxes run roughly $85 per.

For my box topper, I pulled a regular one of Bryce Harper.

But there are many other versions to pull.
  • Box Topper Relic - Numbered to 25.
  • Box Topper Autograph - Numbered to 15.
  • Box Topper Autographed Relic - Numbered to 5.
  • Box Topper Cut Signature - Numbered 1 of 1.
The base cards in Ginter have the usual look and feel. One that most of us don't get tired of.

The base set is 300 cards deep with 50 Sp's and is full of stars of today, past and future along with some oddities.

My best rookie finds:

Oddities including comedians, space and announcers.
The base cards also have parallels that you don't have to rip your box to find. They are glossy and are 1/1's. I have none to show but it's as a heads up.
This product always comes packed with miniature versions of the base. These fall one per pack and have different variations/parallels.

There are also variations to the mini's.

These three were my Ginter backs including Trevor has written an amazing Story. They fall 1:5.

Overall look at the mini parallels and odds:
  • Allen & Ginter Back 1:5 Packs.
  • Allen & Ginter Black-Bordered 1:10 Packs. (a couple are below)
  • Allen & Ginter No Number
  • Allen & Ginter Brooklyn Back Numbered to 25.
  • Allen & Ginter Wood Numbered 1 of 1
  • Allen & Ginter Glossy Numbered 1 of 1
  • Mini Metal Parallel (only 100 subjects) Numbered to 3
Fun additions here. These are mini inserts that fall 1:5 packs.

Offerings include:
U.S. Mayors, Subways and Streetcars, Laureates of Peace and Ferocious Felines

Now onto the other inserts. The design of these continues that Ginter feel throughout.
Baseball Legends:

The Numbers Game that has a huge 100 card checklist fall 1:2 packs

Natural Wonders which was my favorite of the inserts. Very cool look at some of the natural wonders of the world.
Now onto my hits. Usually boxes come with three, I got four and that last one is an absolute doozy.

Framed Mini Relics. I have always been a fan of these.

Regular base relics. These come in two versions. I don't know how to tell them apart but it appears from the two I pulled it has to do with the border. So I can only assume one is A and one is B. If you have any further info I can update this with please add that to your comments below too.

This is super cool. I really like the oddball add-in relics.

And now time for some major boom.

Allen & Ginter Book Cards numbered to 10. I was in shock. And these come with some prime pieces too.
Other offerings not in my box for pulls are:

Ancient Rome Relics that features ancient Roman coins. (pretty cool)
Silver Coin Parallel - Numbered 1 of 1

Allen & Ginter Autographs
Black Framed Parallel are numbered to 25.
Red Ink Parallel are numbered to 10.

Allen & Ginter Framed Originals Framed original Allen & Ginter buybacks are numbered 1 of 1.

Allen & Ginter Book Cards with solo subjects too - Numbered to 10.
Cut Signatures Includes political and historical figures - Numbered 1 of 1.

RIP CARDS (always wanted to pull one of these and figure out if I wanted to rip it and rip it good)
RIP CARD (1 per case)

Contents of the rip cards can include:
Artist's Originals
Allen & Ginter Red Autographs that are numbered to 10.

Allen & Ginter Mini Exclusives (50 subjects) -
Card Numbers 351-400. Mini Wood Exclusives are numbered 1 of 1.
Mini Metal Exclusives are numbered to 3.

Plus I hear there are unannounced add ins such as Topps employee autographs and who knows what else. This product is simply loaded with fun.
But here is the 2016 Allen And Ginter checklist to help you out, CLICK HERE.

Overall, I mean a box break doesn't get any better than this one. I can't promise everyone will deliver like this but all I can say that is if you were a Ginter fan before, 2016 won't disappoint. If you are new to Ginter, I wouldn't tell you not to try it. There is so much in here.

  2. Thx for another great blog. Been waiting for u to do A&G b/c it's my fav set. Congrats on the monster hit!

  3. Thanks for the contest & Topps for the box. Pro is the design for sure. Con is the frequency of non-baseball hits, if I buy a baseball box I want baseball hits!

  4. Wow, congrats on that Papi/Yaz book! I'm a little bummed to see the sitcker autos in Ginter this year, as they're known for on-card autos, right? But yeah, always a fun product to rip. Thanks for the contest!

  5. Pro - I love all the non baseball cards mixed in. Especially framed cards.
Con - I don't like the standard relic, wish they would only do framed relics instead

  6. Great break and cards. Love the post and the more I see of this set the more I like it.

  7. Pro - You have to love the air-brushehd images of the players' images.
Con - Ii'm not a big fan of the non-baseball cards, e.e., dinosaurs, cryptology, wonders of the world, etc.

Overall, howver, not a bad set.

  8. Wow! Great break! That booklet is sick!
Pros: great looking cards, love the top loaders
Cons: If you only collect baseball and you hit something like the Hot dog eating champion relic, you MAY not be too happy. I personally LOVE the variety, but not for everyone

  9. Brandon L

    pro - great oddity cards
con - design seems very similar to past products

  10. Cool book even thought it's of the Red Sox.

  11. Pro... this product.
    Con...needs more Royals😀

  12. Pro: The interesting inserts add to the fun of the break

Con: Inserts can be a bit too off the wall for some (not me though)

  13. Thanks to you and Topps for another great box review. Love the Stonie relic, as non-baseball ones go it's top notch!

Pro - I enjoy the mix of the baseball and non-sports content, keeps it interesting.
Con - The pics for the past two years have been really terrible. At least the 'speckling' isn't as prevalent this year...

  14. Wow great break! I love this product and has always been one of my favorites. Love the non gloss so you can get these signed IP and they look terrific! Con is there is some random cards that have no good use to them but part of that is the fun in A and G

  16. Pro: I like all of the hits that you get in a box.
Con: Not a big fan of the $85 price tag.

  17. Thanks for the contest!

Pro: The minimal design changes from year to year.
Con: Some of the folks on the checklist are way too out there for my tastes.

  18. It's usually a very fun product to open. Having said that, the hits usually leave something to be desired. Even without the booklet, you did pretty well. I'm used to getting three non-star relics.

  19. Congrats on the box topper and the booklet!! I love A&G for its design and uncommons. @EEFFL

  20. Good job, Topps.
Nice box, man, that is some crazy stuff, that 8/10 auto dual patch of Ortiz and Yaz, dang!!
Pros: fun, interesting, not just sports.
Cons: I think the value is not always there. $85 a box is a bit high for hits that might be only worth a dollar or two.

  21. Another nice giveaway. Monster hit too. Congrats.

Pros. Great variety. Different look. Fun. Non sport.

    Con. More baseball hits needed.

  22. Thanks for the contest. Pro would be the non baseball sets and con is the price.

  23. Thanks Topps for saving the boxes with the big hits in them for the reviewers. Congrats on the Yaz/Papi, it is really nice.
Love A&G for the retro design and the variety of subjects, but don't love the copycat nature of the inserts. Kitties and Natural Wonders were done in 2014, which is the last time I did A&G, so I guess they're fresher in my mind.

  24. Pro: A&G always has nice looking cards that are focused on the player, and not on action in the field
Cons: They have so many variations and inserts that its hard to ever pull anything good

    Nice hits though!

  25. Love the randomness of the product
    Hate the collation of hits

  26. Pro is that it's an overall fun product to rip.. Con is the fact there are so many SPs and variations. If you do a case break you might not get all your SPs
