It Was Time

It was time.

It was time for me to do another sorting project. This time, it was another big one.

Over the past few years, I have come to realize with all of the trading I do it would be a lot easier to have my cards sorted by team. So I did that with my base and rookie cards. However, my inserts I have not. And since I have four sports of them to sort, this was going to be quite the project to tackle.

I decided that baseball would be my first one to tackle since that and football were my biggest projects. Basketball and hockey don't have nearly as much.

So I dug right in. Pulling two binders worth of cards out, then sorting them, then rinse and repeat. As of my typing of this I still have a couple baseball insert binders to go.

I definitely couldn't have done any of this project easily without the help of my card sorting tray I got from BCW Supplies. I actually have three of them but could use a couple more the way I in-depth sort my cards and it helps keep my desk clean and neat.

And binders as they empty. I will reuse all of the binders and pages for other projects I have planned. I don't let anything go to waste.

Binders Reorganization Update #2

Last year it was the Super Box Attack that took me a year to do. A few weekends ago I started digging into my biggest hobby project in since then and one that may take even longer....The Great Binder Reorganization!

I showed you part 1 of my reorganization of football inserts, football rookie inserts and rookie cards that took me a couple of weeks to do. I know the post was only four days ago, but I got that up a bit later than I should have. But, this one is a as-of today post.

Today's post takes us to my next step in my project, baseball inserts.

I had originally wanted to put these by-team, but then decided that would take way too long. Than I thought about putting them by product and then incomplete set, but thought it would take up even more binder space that way and my real purpose was wanting to condense them. So I took the same approach with baseball as I did with football.

I pulled out the star players, sets I wanted to finish, missed rookie cards, and more cards for my "Sets Of My Childhood."

 

The sorting got so in-depth that it overflowed my card trays so I went to a backup idea, a deep cardboard box.

This project has been very tedious but rewarding at the same time. Not just from the sorting aspect but from some of the treasures I have found.

And so far I found this gem in my baseball insert binder I didn't know I had. I heard these are numbered to 56 and are tough finds. I know I busted many boxes of Golden Age and this was the only one I found.

 

This is still just the beginning of this possible year long project. I can only fit in doing this when I am not busy or need a blog post to do instead. Which has been kinda restricted with my new blogging format of blogging daily instead of once-a-week. But, it seems the new approach is working in terms of views and comments on the blog.

More updates on the completion of the baseball insert stage as I will move on to the toughest and longest stage of the project, baseball rookie cards to come when I get there.

Remnants Of A Yard Sale Breakdown Part 2

Yesterday I posted my first round of my latest yard sale find and today I am posting the rest of it.

Up to this point and even today's post is focused on 90's inserts and rookies. So let's see more of it!

More Gold Medallions. These may be one of the sharpest parallels of at least 1995. Later on they made the Gold Medallions not so obvious.

Score inserts and more gold finds!

More inserts/parallels. The Philly Phanatic was just a cool card and the Topps Laser was just awesome.

Fleer Inserts. I did find a few double inserts in this box but some were new. I really like the Golden Memories Inserts and the Viola.

Team 2000. I feel like I have 2000 of these.

Some NBA inserts. The Kidd Stick Um I liked finding.

And to finish it out, some early 90's baseball cards including Lou Brock.

 

Overall, a very solid $5 find in my opinion. Like I said I didn't post them all as there were some other inserts and even 6 Rodney Hampton's. I am pretty sure they are all doubles, but they were in there at least.

I would be surprised if you guys didn't agree that I got my money's worth. But, I am going to ask anyways, do you think I got my money back?

Remnants Of A Yard Sale Breakdown Part 1

Yesterday, I posted a new round of yard sale boxes that my mother-in-law picked up and now here is what I was able to save. There were a lot of damaged cards with corners and rubber band marks, but there were also some really good saves. I think this yard sale find overall was my best of the year.

But, I will let you guys help be the judge of it.

So out of probably one or two thousand cards, this was all I was able to keep. The rest will be donated, some trashed and some given to kids at my yard sales.

 Once again there were way too many cards to take pictures of , so I only took the best of the best.

Up first, Collect A Books of LT and John Elway. I didn't have either so they were nice adds for this 90's guy.

Older SI For Kids cards, a Johnny Damon Minor League card and an Al Leiter rookie.

Some football inserts. I was always a fan of the MVP's out of Collectors Choice. Even got one of my favorite players in TD.

Star Quest and a couple more nice Collectors Choice inserts. The Star Quest came in many levels but I only found the basics here.

More football inserts. The Wilkinson had some weird numbering on the back.

Minted In Canton parallels. Sapp was a nice find.

I like GOOOOOOOOOOLLLD.

Gary Payton rookie was a nice find. The Gold Ultra Medallion hockey card was the only hockey card of the bunch.

Not sure what these Reggie Miller cards are. They were small and torn apart like out of a magazine. I am sure one of you will comment and let me know!

And to end today's part, our once Presidential Leader. Dig finding oddballs like this.

 

This is just part one of the finds and like I said, I didn't post all. I feel today's allotment above alone is worth the $5 to me. Maybe not to everyone.

The 90's Collection:1993 Donruss Triple Play Gallery Of Stars Wade Boggs

It's Donruss, it's an insert, it's most likely artistically done, yup. Fits the bill.

I don't know what it is, but when I acquired this card from my buddy Tim in a trade, I fell in love. It's surprisingly something I hadn't seen before.

You could find these one-per-pack in 1993 Triple Play baseball jumbo packs. I never knew until now about the inserts that were in Triple Play due to the fact I only acquired base cards of the product over the years but I guess this was one of four inserts offered with most coming one-per pack. So they don't have big book value, but are still pretty cool to look at.

Not a bad addition to my Yankees PC either.

Mail Day Saturday:Reader's Mail Day Part 4:SHINE BABY, SHINE!

As always with my Grady M reader mail days, I save the shiniest for last.

These are in no particular order, because I just can't choose one favorite shiny card over another. And honesty, there is no order of madness here.  I didn't group them by sport or by anything, instead I just let the photo's simply upload where they wanted to.

Up first, a beautiful dumping of Topps Chrome refractors. Larry Fitzgerald, Percy Harvin, and Andre Johnson to name a few. Along with some rookies.

 

True Colors. Yes, the Phil Collins version of that song just popped into my head. One of my favorite inserts last year from Topps was Cut To The Chase. They look really good.

 

Some hockey shine including St.Louis from my Rangers.

 

Going to miss seeing Topps Platinum on the market in 2016. Was a hobby staple for me for awhile.

 

More goods. Chase Headley that's numbered to 199.

 

Some more 2016 Topps I don't have. I still haven't opened any :( This pile includes former Yankees Almonte.

 

I wished more flagship parallels looked like this. If they could turn the gold borders this way instead of a slight gold tinge, that would look amazing.

 

Prizm always looks nice to me. I know some really don't care for the product, but I am a fan.

And to finish it off, this really sick looking Randall Cobb from Prizm. Don't tell me this card doesn't look nice and it's numbered to 75.

 

Overall, a great 4-part mail day. I can't say thanks enough Grady for all that you do for me. I hope you enjoy your package I put together when it arrives as well and I have begun setting aside a few more things for you for next time :)

Mail Day Saturday:Reader's Mail Day Part 1:Little Of Everything

I posted last weekend about my latest mail day from Sport Card Collectors reader Grady M and thought it was time I started to break this down to show what was hidden inside of this box.

To save myself some time and to save this from being broken down to 7 or 8 posts, I cut my pictures in half and made stacks for certain sections. But, I will do my best to generalize what was in there.

Up first, you can't see it that well, but there was a stack of NY Ranger base cards. Mostly from Upper Deck.

 

 Next, TONS of inserts from Topps, Stadium Club, Heritage and so on.

I pulled this Randy Johnson out because it was my first 2016 Topps baseball insert. I have been really slacking with my box busts recently. I haven't opened any 2015 Topps Chrome baseball or football and no 2016 Topps baseball which are usually musts for me. That's what happens when funds are low.

 I also pulled this out cause I really dig the design. Topps did a great job with these perspectives in my opinion.

First Pitch is one of my favorite inserts from Topps flagship in some time. It's outside the box thinking and I like that. OH, not to mention I got a new Griffey from Gypsy Queen in the bottom right.

 

Tons of minis! Gypsy Queen, Allen and Ginter and Upper Deck Goodwin Champions.

 

 

And to finish it up, a sharp looking CC Sabathia jersey card. Just wished CC was the same guy he was when he first arrived in NY.

Grady Strikes Again! Mail Day Part 2: MLB Inserts

I love finding these in my packages from Grady. Two of three are new but I really need "Fluffy" still.

Chipper, Jackie Robinson lead the way among other big names.

More Topps inserts...I should look into putting some sets together.

Another nice solid baseball insert overload mail day. Hopefully I can find the time to put together some insert sets to see if I have them all. That would be added to one of a million jobs I have to do in my collection.
