Fireworks Sent By Wes!

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

I am not sure what my plans are for the day, probably will involve some grilling if the weather is right, but I hope you have a great/safe holiday.

Today I will be remembering my grandfather who served in World War 2. I never got to meet him and only have pictures to know him by. The War took many lives including his when he got home from war with PTSD. Some day I wished I could find more answers on what he did when he served and anymore details about him. My grandmother has long passed as well and my father doesn't like to speak much about it which I don't blame him.

But, enough with that.

Recently Wes former JBF, former Area 40 and now with a new blog,The Last PC- Where the Big Boys Play sent me some goodies. Some explosive fireworks.

They were wrapped inside of a Priority Bubbler, which I think is the cheapest/best way to mail right now, and then hidden in bubblers on the inside.

I couldn't decide which one to open first so I busted open a Sticky Mystery....

 

Whoa! Super coooooooooooooool. Ectoplasm slime! I think it said also a figure inside. I will probably bust open two and keep one sealed. I never saw these locally.

Then came the card one....

 

Right off the bat, 1998 Ultra Peyton Manning!! Wooo. Someone reads my want list. Now I just need to get the Peyton from Series 1. This was a big surprise.

The next two cards I knew were coming at some point. Wes graciously helped me with my Ghostbusters Slime set. And yes, before you ask, I really do owe him my life. But I will hit him back with some "sweet" stuff don't you fret.

These slime cards do not pop up often and are extremely rare.

With these two in hand, only...

One more to go for the set. Which spoiler, I do have but it's not quite here yet. When it arrives, I will be sure to post them all together.

Once again, I hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day. Don't do anything I wouldn't do, which is pretty much everything but sitting and eating, so yeah. Take care and remember our fallen soldiers who fought hard for what we have today.

Perfect Pairing

Rodney's Cardboard:1994 June Beckett

I know this isn't Rodney' Cardboard, but Rodney's One And Only Beckett back cover feature seemed a tad long.

As far as I know and have seen, this is the only Rodney Hampton Beckett out there. I haven't seen any others that features him on the cover and sadly, the back cover.

On the front they featured Heath Shuler who was supposed to be the next big thing instead of featuring

What was the thing at the time. From 1991-1995, Rodney rushed over 1,000 yards, had a few double digit touchdown seasons and made two Pro Bowls. But made the back cover to Heath Shuler.

I was able to pick this up really cheap as I watched it for two years and the seller finally basically gave it away on an offer I made. It pays to be patient sometimes.

If any of you know of any other covers that Rodney was on for Beckett, let me know!

Autograph Of The Week:Eli Manning Rookie Auto!!

It's that time again, time to show off my latest autograph addition and this one was a big one for me.

Since the beginning of Eli Mannings career, I have been wanting to add an Eli Manning autograph. But, prices were way too high and I could never find one for trade anywhere.

Well, finally one popped up at a reasonable price and with some magic, I was able to snag it.

To my surprise, the card also came along with some bonuses.

First was this Tom Brady Masterpieces. Boy, did Upper Deck do good for football. Wished we could see that again.

then came the big surprise, however, it was damaged. A 1998 Bowman Peyton Manning rookie that apparently stuck in the pack to another card.

And then came the card I wanted, a 2004 Sage Hit graded gold Eli Manning auto /100. I know it's Sage Hit and all, but it's still my very first rookie autograph of Eli after 16 years of wanting one.

I need to update numbers to see where my Eli Manning autograph is at, I believe 7 or 8, but getting closer to my goal of 10! I would like to add a real rookie autograph at some point down the road but am happy with this one for now.

Well that ties up another week and another autograph shown off.

Kerry's Cardboard:1998 Finest No Protector Refractor

To Peel Or Not To Peel, that is the question.

Except in 1998.

Finest came with two versions of their Topps Finest in 1998. Say hello to cards with Protector and No Protector. How will my OCD deal with that, well, it would have to deal.

I never once peeled off a peel from a Finest card. Couldn't do it. Now Topps included peeled versions already in packs as a parallel and even gave them a refractor parallel.

The No Protector regular versions fell 1:2 packs while the refractor versions like todays card fell 1:24 packs.

The cool thing about these cards is the back is as shiny as the front.

This Collins went up for bid auction and went so cheap that even I could afford it.

I need the other versions of the 1998 base as this is my start, hopefully will be able to knock those down soon.

The Latest 90's Spx Add!

As most readers of this blog or followers of my Twitter account know, I love 90's Spx and have been trying to knock down every set/card I can from every sport.

It's not as easy as it sounds.

I have so far completed:
1996, 1997, 1998 Spx football base sets
1996 Spx racing
1997 Spx racing
1996 Spx hockey
1997 Spx baseball
1997-1998 Spx basketball
1996 Spx football Tribute cards and the Tribute autographs

And am close to these ones,
1997 Spx hockey (13 away)
1996 Spx baseball (13 away)
1996 Spx basketball (need just the MJ)
1996 Spx hockey Holoview Heroes (just a couple remain)

So there is still much, much more to go with inserts, autographs and parallels.

Today is one of those parallel sets, this is 1998 Spx football Steel which fell 1:1 packs in a three card pack. I found a 42 card lot, with 50 in the total set, for $3.24. Yes, $3 and 24 cents. That's a steal.

The lot also included a lot of big names as well.

I was shocked that this ended so cheaply and that I was able to close out most of this parallel set in one swoop.

Now I just got to find the last 8 cards to get this completed and will update those numbers on here soon.

Breakin' Wax:1995 Stadium Club Football Series 2 Box Break

Not too long ago I showed off a box of 1995 Stadium Club football Series 1 on here I busted thanks to my buddy Shane. Now it's time to show off how Series 2 went which I felt was a better break between the two.

So let's check it out!

Unlike Series 1, I went retail for Series 2. There are 13 cards per pack and once again some fun inserts to chase.

The base cards for the second series look the same and are still apart of the 450 card set.

The photography is still stunning as you will see with this Swann card and some more following it

 

Unlike Series 1 with the Xtreme Corps, Series 2 had Expansion Team cards from the Panthers and Jaguars.

Series 2 finished rest of the Series 1 Draft Pix such as Steve McNair

Now onto my inserts

Ground Attack fell 1:14 packs. Another set I am seeking by the way. They feature volcanoes, lava and foil, can't go wrong.

MVP falls 1:18 packs. I pulled two of the best with Emmitt and Rice with the laser cut.

 

And this almost stuck to the back of another card Power Surge card Michael Irvin that fell 1:28 packs. And yes, another set chase.

Like I said box number 2 was better than box 1. Better looking inserts, bigger names pulled.

There will be more boxes coming up soon to look forward to such as 1995 Zenith football, 1996 NFL Lasers, and 1995 Pro Line Classic Series 2.

Breakdown And A New Griffey

Gavin from Baseball Card Breakdown blog and I usually do many PWE trades throughout the year but last year I was a slacker on doing so. Not sure why, but I was.

This year however, I have already done two with him and plan on doing more. Gavin always seems to find some Giants I need.

Overall, he sent 7 Giants cards but in this post only four of those will be shown. The last three, You gotta check out SNAGGING CARDBOARD if you want to see them. It's the home of my NY Giants PC.

Shiny JPP. I always take refractors when I can.

Some former Gmen. I had high hopes for Williams and "prospected" him. Well, taught me a lesson. However he did play in the XFL, not sure how he did. I didn't watch any of that.

Up next, I made a small trade for a big PC card.

Boom! It's my first Quad Relic featuring Griffey Jr. Not that the other guys on here are okay, but the main focus was my boy. I haven't added a Griffey card to the PC in quite some time so it was nice to do so. I have lost track of my PC count once I hit over 1,000 of him. I will need to update that on here at some point.

Jeter Rules The Day

Back in my mail day from Dion a couple weeks ago, I mentioned sending out two packages that day and braving the post office because of two big cards.

Well, the second of those mail days is now being posted which came from @tmcbmatt. However, it's being posted minus the big card. You will have to follow Cards Over Coffee if you expect to see that card and it's worth seeing.

In the meantime, you can check out what rest of the mail day was.

There was lots of good stuff in these mail days which should give me something to do when it comes to putting them away, though it won't take very long. My biggest sort is still ahead, I just got to get the materials to get that underway.

Rodney's Cardboard:1996 Finest Gold Refractor

It's that day of the week again, a day I show off the latest Rodney Hampton addition!

Today's was a long awaited card that once I saw, I grabbed.

1996 was a great year for Topps Finest with its multi leveled base cards and refractor parallels. One card I have been wanting and wasn't sure I was ever going to find was the Gold refractor since they are so rare. I tried to research how hard these were, but couldn't find the exact details and  my mind is shady to remember such facts from over 24 years ago. I once knew it.

Either way, it's a very tough pull.

One finally popped up on COMC via eBay and I wasn't going to let it sit there for the taken. Instead, I took it.

I couldn't quite capture it's golden refractoryness

Backside of the card tells us it's a rare card level just for the gold aspect. That's not even adding on the fact it's a refractor.

This also finishes up my 1996 Finest needs.

The more Rodney's I find, the closer I am to getting them all. I keep seeing my Google Sheet being covered in yellow, which  makes me happy but sad at the same time knowing probably at some point I could have them all and that's it. Or it could narrow me down to just 1/1's I may never find and that could be it.

But, at least I have plenty of other PC's to pass the time.

Autograph Of The Week:Cedric The Entertainer

I didn't really start to enjoy Cedric The Entertainer until he was the star of the CBS comedy The Neighborhood which is now in Season 2.

The comedy is about a white family from Michigan that moves into the "hood" and all of the laughs that come from that. It also has many heartwarming moments between the main character Calvin Butler (Cedric) and his "favorite" new neighbor Dave Johnson. Calvin always doubted the arrival of his neighbors and wasn't very welcoming unlike his family was to them. Over the past couple of seasons, you can tell that Calvin's rough exterior has a warm place in his heart for his neighbors.

I stumbled upon this autograph of his featured in Panini Americana and offered the seller a price and they accepted.

He has a solid signature and it's a nice addition to my non sports PC.
