REVIEW:2019 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball

It’s time for another baseball release and one of my early on favorites in Gypsy Queen. I just recently got my hands onto some and will break it all down for you today.

I will also mention that I have heard that Topps may have been sneaky again and hid cards in the lids of the boxes so I ripped mine apart just in case. But, no such luck.

Let’s take a look if I had any luck.

In each hobby box of 2019 Topps Gypsy Queen are these box toppers that come with three chromed Gypsy Queen cards. Yes….CHROMED!!! More chrome the better to me.

These were my three I found including a Indigo of Lindor /150. Other parallels include, Gold /50, Red /5 and of course the Super Fractor 1/1 and even some autographs /25.

Also in every box of 2019 Topps Gypsy Queen, you will find 24 packs of 8 cards per pack. There will be 2 autographs per box and boxes cost just over $100.
The base card set for this year’s product is probably one of my favorites to date. Really clean look. There are 300 cards in the standard base set that include rookies and veterans.

Here is a card back, no stats and just a small write up on the player.

There is also 20 SP’s which make up cards 301-320 that fall roughly one per box. My find was this Hank Aaron for my Sp.

There are variation cards to find as well. Best way to tell these is by using the CMP codes on the back of the cards.
  • · Base ends in 293

  • · Base SP ends in 323

  • · Jackie Robinson Variation ends in 328

  • · Players Weekend Variation ends in 331

  • · 4th Of July Variation ends in 334
In my box I found this Aaron Judge Players Day Weekend variation. Really great photo in my opinion. These fall 1:139 odds.

As always, products come with parallels and there are plenty of them to find in here.
I pulled a Missing Nameplate at 1:21 odds

GQ Logo Swap at 1:29 odds

Bazooka Back at 1:57 odds

And this Indigo at 1:23 that’s numbered to 250.

Other ones to find are Green, Purple, Black and White, Red and Black 1/1.

Now onto the inserts. They have the following parallels of Indigo /250, Green /99 and Black 1/1.

Fortune Teller Minis with 20 cards to collect

Tarot Of The Diamond with 22 cards to collect

Now onto my hits. Which honestly were terrible.

Autograph number one

Autograph number two

Other hits that may not be as bad to find that I didn’t are,
  • · Mini Rookie Autographs

  • · Fortune Teller Autographs

  • · Autograph Garments

  • · Autograph Patch Booklet

  • · Bases Around The League Autograph Relic

  • · Pull Up Sock Autograph Relic

  • · Power Performers Portrait Art Patch
Overall Thoughts: Well, the overall look of the product is great and I like the base set checklist at a good number along with the Sp’s. The inserts look improved from last year and I feel you aren’t flooded with parallels which Is a great thing.

However my overall value in this box wasn’t as great. The best pull of this box was the Judge Players Day Weekend variation which currently is going for $40. There is still lots of gap to make up there and the autographs don’t even touch it.

With that being said, with every product it’s a gamble. You could end up with a hot box or end up with a cold one or possibly end up even. Each box is different so don’t judge a product by how I did, but by if you like the look, presentation and possibilities. That’s at least how I look at things.

A cheaper way to possibly land a hit in a break like this would be to buy into a box break which I suggest Midwest Box Breaks when you do so.

Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Topps for providing this box for me to review and to be able to add cards to the giveaway on Twitter I am hosting. Please follow me there to enter @SportCardCollec. Also follow Topps on all social media sites and visit their SITE, as well.

  1. I just opened a couple boxes. The design this year is so colorful. My autos weren't great but did not purchase GQ hoping to pull something hot. The best, Christin Stewart, came from a random pack purchase. I only need a handful of cards to finish the set, oh and 27 more SPs!

  2. I really like this set. That said my pulls have been disappointing. I'm not talking parallels and inserts. The base cards as a whole were not that exciting in regards to star power. I may have to start chasing singles if my pulls continue to disappoint. Good stuff.

    1. Sometimes singles are the only way to get what youwant.

  3. I enjoy the overall design of GQ this year... but after reading all of the parallels and variations... I'm a bit overwhelmed. I guess it gives player collector's something to chase, but for this simple collector... it's a bit too much.

P.S. I just left this on another GQ post... the small font is killing my eyes.

    1. This one is a tad better for the amount of parallels and variations compared to some though.

  4. I like these cards. I've opened a couple of packs, and I did get a couple fortune teller cards. That Miggy box topper is awesome, and that Aaron SP is sweet!
    Good job!

  5. I love Gypsy Queen this year. Nice design, fun parallels and really nice, interesting pictures for the front. Although I only did slightly better on my boxes autos (I did get a Koepich...) I think it's world's better than Heritage which gave me a random relic card and almost no stars in the base set for the same price.

    1. I absolutely agree. I put this a bit further ahead of Heritage. Two autographs over one relic card any day and especially for roughly the same price.

  6. As always I'd be interested in trading for the autographs if there unwanted.... LMK I like the look of the cards just not sure I like the number of inserts parallels and gimmicks(No Nameplate) geez why......

  7. The design this year is a lot better than year's past. The rookie autographs aren't very good, but some of the other autos you can get are stunning. The Fortune Teller autos are amazing!

    1. I also don't feel the rookie class is very strong this year either.

  8. I love the look of these cards this year, and like you said, more chrome the better. Those autos are pretty terrible but the checklist in general is pretty solid actually. That Judge is a great card and helps save the box; I'd say getting half ROI is honestly really good. Thanks for the review.

    1. Thanks for reading. If that Judge hadn't been found the box would have been pretty bad.
