My 2016 NFL Notes And CONTEST!!

Wanna win this card? Well, going to try and give it away again.

With a terrible showing by the Giants yesterday, this card still remains in my hands and I know someone wants to own this of a possible future superstar.

Before the contest announcement, first MY 2016 NFL NOTES:

As many of you know, I am very passionate about football. I am in two fantasy leagues finishing 5th in my personal one just missing the playoffs by needing one Beckham catch. Finished 3rd in the TSCP league with just a Terrence West start away instead of playing Forte like I did. First time ever not winning or being in the championship for those.

I am in 3 NFL Pick Em leagues. Never won in the 2 involving cards all year and finished my season with the worst yet in both. Even the local one I just won in Week 17, scored 14/16 games and 3 points off, I am going to finish over 100th place out of 300. Very poor but at least I won in it for the first time ever in my 10th year of entering. Free pizza for me!

My Giants finished 11-5 and made the playoffs. They got a pretty decent young team going into next year to add more pieces to. Just need a TE and definitely some oline. Could be a great 2017. #GiantsPride

And finally, my passion for football runs so deep, I SO BADLY WANT THE PATRIOTS AND COWBOYS to lose that I am giving the card, possibly more, away above to celebrate when and if they do. It would be the worst possible Super Bowl match-up for me if they both make it. I can't find a team to route on in that case and would hope for a tie. I will give two cards away if they both lose this weekend to two different winners.

So how do you win the card above for now.

Instead of a random, I just want you to give me a guess in comments the numbering of this card out of 3250. You can just copy and paste from last weeks answers if you want, but you must comment on this post in order to be entered. A Patriots or Cowboys loss and the person closest to the numbering without going over will be the winner of the Bosa!

Other quick rules:

  2. Card may be shipped PWE. I like to forewarn on this.
  3. Winner will be chosen IF the Cowboys or Patriots lose and the winner will be chosen by the person closest to guess of the numbering of Bill Mueller card /3250 without going over.
  4. Sport Card Collectors or it's owner (person who runs the blog), WILL NOT be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged mail. Sorry had to add this in since someone tried to scam me once about this.
  5. Contest starts today, ends on January 13th 2017 by 11:59 pm e.t.. Winner will be announced in a separate post on January 16th 2017 IF either lose.
There will be another contest if only one loses, but this will carry over if both win.

Giants Win, You Can Too!

This week is a big game for my 8-4 NY Giants as they take on the 11-1 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

It's a must win if they want any shot left at the division. That's something I honestly think Dallas has already locked up after Giants lost to Pitt, but, none the less, i strongly dislike Dallas and want a win. So sick of hearing the Dak/Zeke talk.

The Giants also need a win to hold onto the Wild Card spot which they lead by 2 games currently.

So I am giving this away, this sweet 2016 Phoenix rookie auto memorabilia card of top Chargers pick Joey Bosa if and only if the GIANTS WIN.

Here is how to enter:

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 4:An Odell Of a Start

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Today's card is what kicked off the trade. He had been waiting on a redemption from Topps for awhile and it finally arrived. Once I saw the card, I pretty much put in a claim for it.

As everyone knows, I am a big Giants fan and this card fits perfectly into my collection. I think it marks my 3rd or 4th Odell now as I once started at 0. But, you just can't have enough of him as I feel he still is in the Top 5 WR's in the NFL right now. Just needs an attitude adjustment.
Thoughts on the first card anyone?? More to come!

REVIEW:2015-2016 Excalibur Basketball

Panini is reeling a 90's revival streak. Excalibur is one of those brands I used to collect back then. Of course with any revival like that, there comes many changes to the original.

Last year, this product was simply just a target exclusive, this year Panini changed things up a bit and made it an hobby exclusive and the gravity feed and blasters remaining just Target exclusives. Wondering if this change will help drive up sales on the product instead of limiting it to just Target.

Let's take a look at my thoughts on the product

In every box of 2015-2016 Excalibur basketball, there are 6 Packs Per Box with 10 Cards Per Pack. You will find Six Rookies and Three Crusade Cards along with Three Autographs or Memorabilia Cards. Each box will run you roughly $95 per box.

The base cards are much different than the football ones I used to collect. No more of the plastic feeling base and more of thinner cardboard approach. The design is a bit funky in the back, but it has the feeling of Excalibur times. There is bronze foil for the players name and brand at the bottom of the card. The team name is a bit out of place in the top left corner and is barely noticeable.

The rookies have the same design as the base except the added blue color at the bottom. The funky design in the back is also different.

Now onto the inserts.

There are simple to define parallels. This is a silver vs a base card. Only difference, name and word Excalibur written in silver and the card is numbered to 70.

Same goes for this Jamfest insert. Regular in bronze, parallel in silver. It appears to me that all of the inserts have numbered parallels. You should find two parallels overall per box.

The theme and simple designs stay true throughout most of the inserts....

except from one of my favorite inserts ever, Crusades which obviously fit the theme but also stand out above the other inserts. These SUPER chromed cards glisten gold in your eyes. You should find three per box with possible parallels. I pulled a red one in my box. There are other parallel chases to Crusade as well.

Now onto the hits.

My first one was a Memorable Memorabilia of Carmelo Anthony. I like the design and layout of the card.

My next pull was a Treasured Ink of Goran Dragic. This is numbered to 249 and still continues the feel of the rest of the product. This card will be in a future giveaway as well.

And my final hit of the box was a Rookie Rampage jersey/auto of Celtics Terry Rozier. These come with a good size swatch. However, autograph placement for me doesn't work here. It needs to be set at the bottom of the card. Looks weird going up. I also couldn't find any numbering on the card either.

There are prime offerings also to be found of these.

Overall, a tough break. Excalibur does have a lot of positives to it, it's just too bad this box couldn't showcase them all. Like I always say, any product is a gamble. Some pay off, some don't. Simply put.

However, one thing that will definitely pay off in a break of this is pulling a Kaboom insert. Those bad boys are rare with only one falling per case and the value of those hold steady over time. Not to mention they are very eye catchy too.

You can see those Kaboom inserts for yourself on this link on the Panini's Knights Lance blog, HERE..

Finding The Bargains

I am always on the lookout for bargains, so when I found a NY Giants lot that included 7 hits and started out at $13, I targeted it like a hunter spotting a nice buck.

Luckily for me, nobody else spotted this. So $13 and a steal was born!

There were a few base cards in there. I was missing three out of four so I call that a win.

Nassib. Not sure if he will ever play but if he does I have plenty of him!

Not sure where this guy is now. Still a cool card and autograph.

A new Andre card and it's Prizm. Sweet!

I never have seen these before. I was already a big fan of Panini Black and this just makes it even more. The offset in color/B&W is very beautiful. The layout is nice as well. The number 21 here is for Eli's 21 career comeback wins.

A new Rueben Randle autograph for the PC. I really wished he would be more consistant. I hope the Giants re-sign him next year too and give him another shot. He has shown some signs of stardom.

Another new Randle!!! This is another one I have always wanted to add to the PC. Now I need the Sp Authentic and the Contenders auto.

And closing the mail day out is this impressive two-color auto patch of Andre Williams. This alone could have gone for what I paid for the lot.

Not sure if the rest of you will agree, but I think I scored pretty well here. A few of these cards might have sold for the $13 to the right buyer. Just glad I snatched it up first.

As always, thoughts on my mail day are appreciated!

DACardworld Christmas Break The Final One: Panini Black Football 2012

So for Christmas every year, I am allowed to give a list of what cards I want for Christmas. Out of that list a couple boxes would be chosen. I will break those down over the next few days to show you how we did..

The final box was a product I had really wanted to try in 2012 Panini Black. It was a high end brand on dacardworld.com but they had it at a reasonable price so I took the chance. Glad I did.. Once again, the one thing this Christmas I did specify due to the lack of good rookies in the 2013 class was that I wanted 2012 product. And my wishes came true.

Such a slick design
One of two rookies I found. But this was the bigger name.

Gold Parallel

Numbered inserts

Nice Curtis Martin

The reason I wanted this product was for the rookie autographs because they looked so sweet and now I have to wait to see it!

This was the first hit actually in the pack...great way to kick it off but the next card was the top notch finisher!

BOOM SHAKAKLALALALA!

Dual autograph numbered 1/10 of Cam Newton and Deion Neon Sanders!

This made for a great Christmas break! Always wanted an auto of these guys!

Must also say, Panini Black is an excellent product. The designs are really well done. The cards are really thick and you can pull some really cool stuff. And though you would think a product done on black cardboard would chip a lot, didn't see any chipping in this break.

As always, comments are encouraged on the break or on the pull. Would also enjoy feedback on Panini Black as well!

Review: Totally Certified Football 2013

Box Break Down:
  • 6 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • Two Autographed Cards Per Box
  • Three Memorabilia Cards Per Box
  • Four Freshman Phenoms Per Box
  • 6 Hits Per Box
  • $110 per box

BASE CARDS: If you like micro etching like us, boy did Panini do a great job of it this year in Totally Certified. They completely remade the angles of how the micro etching is done. The flow or wave of the etching is spectacular. They even look great on this years new base card additions Freshman Phenoms and Thanksgiving which showcases all of the great moments in the Thanksgiving games. There are also autograph and parallels of those.

INSERTS: It took a second glance to notice this parallel but after reading card backs and seeing that Peyton's was numbered, we figured it was the blue parallel. And now upon appearance of it, you can see that the top and bottom corner colors are different. I do wished there was a better way to tell. Maybe "blue" the whole card.

There are other parallels to find as well! Usually two per box.

AUTOGRAPHS:  You usually find 3 autographs in a box. We were impressed to find two Freshman Fabric autographs. That must not happen too often. Both of them are up and coming stars. The design is remade this year as well. We like the balance on the card Panini used. There is just enough player, autograph, swatch and writing. The design team did great this year on the Freshman Fabric autos.

Our third autograph we have never heard of. But it's the Freshman Phenom design with an autograph on it.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:Micro-etching + jersey card=sweetness. Even plain and boring one color swatches look spectacular against the micro-etching.

Above we pulled one of our favorite dual jersey cards out there in Stitches In Time. We got one pairing the leagues top two tight ends. But you can also find other star players (current and retired) in this set including duals, triples and quads jersey cards, numbered from 299 to 25 or less.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Another well designed football product release in 2013. I think companies have upped their game this season making products more appealing and adding more veteran content due to the lack of top rookies in the class. Panini definitely did that here. Product is a little steep in price for the average collector, but we recommend it. There is a lot of good finds in here and a very impressive card design for the overall product.

Upper Deck Spx auto/jersey Hakeem Nicks eBay Mail Day

As a bargain hunter, I am always searching for deals and when I stumbled upon this Hakeem Nicks (literally stumbled upon it when looking up Eli Manning cards and have no clue why he was listed that way) and found this at a bargain. Being not only a Giants fan, but Nicks fan as well, I had to add it.

It's my first rookie auto of his and now will fit perfectly into my collection and will be something I will hold onto whether the Giants decide to hold onto Nicks after the season or not. Which by the way, in my opinion, they should. He may be having a down season, but this guy has big hands and is a HUGE play maker.

This card is also another example of why Upper Deck needs an NFL license again. I really miss Spx being an NFL product. I am not a huge fan of NCAA football or the cards. Hopefully someday they will get a shot at one. I would be happy seeing three NFL licenses again.

Random Card Of The Day: Christian Ponder Sp Authentic Rookie Card auto/patch 2011

I thought this was a good pull last year, but after watching the way he played..was disappointed it wasn't someone else. But watching Ponder this year..much better!! And he has the Vikings off to a winning record as well after beating the 49ers last week.
