Breakin' Wax:2021 Prizm Draft Football Hanger Box

2021 was much better for me when it came to opening up wax. I was able to find some, trade for some, etc when I had that itch. It may not have always something I was dying to open, but it was something and I will take that over the nothing that was 2020.

I don't have the picture of the box I opened today, but I do have the most important parts, the contents.

And two surprise rookies as well. I must have opened up a few of these hangers/blaster/packs and never once pulled either of these guys. Then I find both right in this break. I won't complain.

I think these are called Green Waves. Pretty cool looking regardless of name.

 

And my break ends with some green parallels.

Nothing overly exciting to brag about. I do like the Fields and Lawrence adds to the rookie PC, but other than that, not much here for me.

Swatters, Board Members, Dish Men and Sticky Fingers

My latest Burbank Sportcards mail day was full of 90's shiny goodness.

This is only one part of the mail day, tomorrow will be the remaining. I had my eyes on two sets that brought me back to 1996 when I was at the ripe age of 13. Back when I was deeply into collecting football and basketball cards.

I just kick myself every day for not holding onto more of my basketball.

That's where my orders from Burbanks comes into play. I tackle my nostalgia needs that way.

Today, I grabbed a few cheap 1996-1997 Topps Seasons Best inserts which fell 1:8 packs and feature players who have excelled in the five key statistical categories of the game: 

• Points - En Fuego
• Rebounds - Board Members
• Steals - Sticky Fingers
• Assists - Dish Men 
• Blocks - Swat Team

I took a dive into a few of these that they offered on their Beckett Marketplace,

Who doesn't remember ripping packs of this and seeing a shiny card floating in the middle of the pack. It brought that joy as you slowly went through each card anticipating that sweet moment.

And even though I never landed a MJ, I did find a few of these guys in packs.

 

The prismatic refractor look on these is spectacular. Puts all inserts today to shame.

I hope to add a few more of these down the road and as always, I am up for trades for the ones I don't have. HIT ME UP!

Box Of Goodies:Grady M Strikes AGAIN! Part 7

One of the new products on the block from Panini, Donruss Optic was a brand I really wanted to try.

I still haven't, but I finally got my first taste thanks to Grady.

I am not sure about the rest of you, but I was curious to see how Donruss would look "chromed" and after seeing it up close, I can say it looks impressive.

All of these cards are refractor parallels. That's what I am calling them at least. Not sure what the technical term from Panini may be.

Here are a couple of base ones along with pink. None are numbered but the cards look great.

Box Of Goodies:Grady M Strikes AGAIN! Part 6

Today's part of my mail day is just the kickoff to the shiny items I found in my box. As many of my readers know, my eyes are drawn to shiny objects and especially chrome ones.

First round, gold numbered to 199 refractors from Finest. Some great player Chrome purples and a Clowney, who is supposed to be much improved this year, x-factor rookie.

I thought First Pitch looked great un-chromed, but chroming them and slapping a refractor to, wow!

Military refractors from Prizm. Cano and Pedroia lead the way here.

 Another red prizm and a numbered Longoria.

 

And another insert from Topps I thought already looked good in the flagship took a turn for the even better in Perspectives.

I may have to chase down my missing ones to go for a set.

REVIEW:2016 Panini Unparalleled Football (AUTO GIVEAWAY)

Panini the last few years has taken what I feel is a dive back to the 90's and I have been completely on board with it.

This one has a Leaf Quantum feel, but one that is taken to the max. If you like squigglies and everything shiny, well, this one is definitely for you.

In every box of 2016 Panini Unparalleled football is 8 Packs with 10 Cards Per Pack. Each Box contains One Autograph and Two Memorabilia Cards and also has....

• 3 #'D CARDS
• 1 INSERT PER PACK
• 3 PARALLELS PER PACK
• 4 BASE PER PACK
• 2 ROOKIES PER PACK

 And boxes go for $90.

The base cards are hard to explain so I had to borrow the info from Panini's Knights Lance blog to help with defining them. The designs are very shiny, sparkly, glittery and so on. It does appear that the base goes by color more than design so check below on how to define them.

There are 100 veterans and legends (1-100) along with 100 rookies (101-200) involved. Some of the rookies may be guys you haven't heard of so it gives a good opportunity to get those type of players before they turn into stars.

This kinda product is lots of fun for those who like to collect rainbows of their favorite players or rookies.

Now onto the inserts.

The shiny sparkly design stays true throughout the product. Each insert has it's own set of parallels of Orange /99, Red /49, Blue /25, Green /10, Gold /5,  and Black 1/1.

The insert themes are well done. I mean Pivotal Drive are key players you would want to be on the field towards the end of the game and All-Pro is self explanatory.

Perfect Pairs has teammates who are ready to tear it up!

Zoned, love the Eli by the way, players with numbers from their best game of 2015.

World Class Records has players with just that.

Now onto the hits!

My first pull was a RPS Rookie Material dual jersey. There are different levels to find of these including Dual /199, Dual Prime /49, Triple /25, Triple Prime /10, Brand Logo /2, and Triple Tag 1/1. The base ones with one swatch are numbered to 299.

This is a veteran memorabilia set. These have parallels as well of Dual /99 and Triple #49 or less.

Mine is a slick sick patch triple relic. Love the relics on the card design. And don't tell me you don't.

And my final pull, I was hoping for a RPS Rookie Autograph Jersey Relic, but they fall one in every other box, but I did get a top pick. Look above for definition of parallels you can find.

  

Overall, I am a fan. But, this product won't be for everyone as not everyone digs the shiny/swirly in-depth designs in this product. Collecting a set or putting a rainbow of your favorite players would be a ton of fun. Or just chasing the memorabilia cards as I still like those a lot.

The inserts are nice, the memorabilia cards look spectacular and the autographs don't look too bad either and the design drowns out the sticker autos. And the checklist includes veterans, legends and rookie hits throughout. So you are not just getting a bunch of rookie related material.

The cost is what I would expect for a product like this. My box wasn't the best break, but I think with the number of numbered cards you are expected and the possible chance at big hits this one is worth a try. But, only if you are a fan of the design. If not, you probably shouldn't bust.

Some Shine:Grady M Mail Day Part 7

As every reader of this blog knows and as most hobbyists feel, there is nothing better than something shiny.

I think Grady definitely knows I feel this way as the next three posts will cover the shiny in many different brands and sports.

Up first, I am totally digging these Prestige X-tra points from 2016. They look superb!

Up next, some shine from Donruss along with some numbered cards. I guess I didn't do so well with sorting this group out.

And we end it with some pretty slick cards from Donruss Elite. The Encarnacian is numbered to 50 and has a nice die-cut.

 

This is only a small start of the shiny-showings over the next few posts. Then we end it all with some hits. Stay tuned for more on this mail day.

Sunday's With Rodney:1997 Crown Royale

1997 Crown Royale base cards to me are by far the best looking Crown Royale ones ever made.

The product features an action shot of a player, in this case Rodney, printed on top of a double-foiled double-etched card with a die-cut gold crown. Player position, name and team logo also appear on the front of the card. Overall, it's very easy on the eyes.

 

The back isn't too shabby either. Player photo with helmet off and same layout as the front. However, no player stats which are a bit of a loss as I like to see at least the season or two before. At least the write-up is good and the front of the card will be the main focus here anyways.

One EX That I Can Deal With

As many of you know, I am a BIG 90's collector. Other than chasing down unique inserts and base cards, I collect certain sets that I used to have. Yes, used to have making them my Ex. Now you get the post title :)

One of those sets was Ex2000 which to this day may be some of the greatest base cards ever created. The acetate back ground, the full blown color and shininess gives it quite an edge over other base cards. I am sure you will agree.

Up first the main rookie card of the set and the first card in the set, Jake Plummer.

I love how they did the back of the card as its the mirror of the front. So cool.

Another key rookie in the set, Warrick Dunn. This was also the season that Tampa switched to the much cooler uni's and helmets and got rid of the creamscicle ones.

2 Giants PC cards as well. This is a Hilliard rookie.

I had been trying for two years to add this to my PC. The problem was the price people were asking for it. I felt it was too steep. So when I stumbled on the set finding it on sale for $10, it was a no-brainer that I needed to buy or I would lose out.

Now to try and get the baseball and basketball versions!

Box Of Goodies,Grady M Mail Day Part 6: Shiny Ending!

Finishing off this Grady M mail day is part 2 of my shiny additions. Today most of the focus is put on Panini Prizm parallels that always bring the zing.

I didn't get to bust any 2015 Prizm so these parallels bring joy in two ways. Great players mixed in as well with Big Ben, Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson.
