Hangin' With Donruss

*takes a sip of coffee on this brisk 38 degree morning. Yesterday's highs got into the 50's and today will be about that as well. Another sip to keep warm and realizing that the season is changing fast is needed*

It's game day Sunday for the Giants. This used to be a time of excitement for me but as this season has progressed the Giants have looked worse by the week and today face the LA Rams who have played well thus far. If the Giants can keep it within 10 points I would call that a win especially after losing last week by 20 to a practice squad 49er team.

Enough with the sadness, we get enough of that this year already, I am just glad I actually get to watch football.

Yesterday marked my year end BBQ where I use the grill for the last time before the weather gets any colder. It will be put away today for next year as it would be hard to grill on my deck full of snow.

With it being game day, I thought it would be fun to show off my break of 2020 Donruss football.

My father was able to grab two hangers for me and two for himself before it sold out. My first blaster, which I opened was embarrassingly bad so I won't show that. However, the one I gave my wife to open was pretty solid so we will do that one. Not that I mind showing off bad breaks, but I think today I want to focus on the positive.

*takes a sip, begins to rip*

Every Hanger Box of 2020 Donruss football comes with 50 cards. Each box also promises 4 Press Proof parallels and shots at autographs and relics.

The Donruss base card design has kinda stayed par for Donruss for some time now. Nothing new about it.

Other than players in new places. It is weird seeing Rivers in a Colts uni.

The base set has 350 cards with 50 rookie base and 50 Rated Rookies as well. I didn't find any Rated Rookies in my pack and the best rookie I found was the Giants first round pick offensive lineman.

Up next we find the 4 promised Press Proof parallels which are red.

 

Can't complain about any of these guys with Watson and Kelly leading the way.

For me though, it's not about the base or the parallels or even the hits, I come to Donruss for the inserts/nostalgia and their shiny appeal.

 

Nostalgia Factor kicks it off here with the Donruss 90 design. I think this would have made a better base card design. Panini should had chosen a different Donruss design from the 90's to use for their base designs instead of using them for inserts.

 

40 cards with this design is what you would be chasing. I won't be as they left off the Giants from the checklist for it. How could you not at least make a Saquon one?!

Gridiron Kings with one of the NFL's best young players. There are 15 of these to collect.

I found it interesting that Panini added a Optic preview set to this. It feels un-needed but I always do enjoy a chromed card find. This one is a blue /99 parallel. Not the greatest player to pull but hey, it's still a rookie QB. Other parallels of these to find are Holo, Pink, Red & Green, Red #/99, Gold #/10.

 

There are 100 of these to chase with Rated Rookies and rookies included.

 

How can you have Donruss without Elite Series? YOU CAN'T!! There are 60 of them to collect split by rookies and veterans.

*takes a sip before closing up this post. Honestly, that's a lie. I just finished up this cup and am brewing a second one. I have to use the Keurig today because this guy forgot again to grab a can of coffee from the grocery store the other day thinking that he already had one at home. You should never ever do that*

Donruss once again was an entertaining break. It gave me all the feels with the nostalgia and the shiny goodness. I do wished I could have pulled some better rookies-at least I got that Burrow insert-or some more PC cards, but I will take what I get and can always search for the other stuff another time. It's all apart of the hobby fun.

Mail Day Saturday:Reader Mail Day Part VII

Another Saturday is here and that means to showcase a mail day, or in today's case, three parts.

Surprisingly I am still buried behind in mail day awesomeness and I need to cut to the chase here and show it off. So today, three more parts of my Grady M reader mail day will make their appearance. I hope it's not too much of an overload for you guys and just has the right touch and keeps your interests.

So here we go!

Today's cards are so beautiful that words can't explain them. You will have to use your eyes to come up with your own words.

They are a 2015 Topps Finest cards in the epic 1995 design. Not to mention, refractors of them. I almost fell out of my seat when they were in the box as I haven't ever seen them up-close before.

First up, Peyton Manning. This also is a green parallel.

Then Aaron Rodgers which is the base.

And finally, by far my favorite of the group, ELI MANNING that is numbered to 99. I want a rainbow so bad now!!!

So there you have it, three simple but beautiful cards.

Pylon in for Panini's Father's Day Promo 2013

Panini keeps revealing more of its Father's Day lineup as the Dad's day creeps closer and for the Panini wrapper redemption program .

To start off Panini released more Prizm images into their baseball part of the promo. I think these Prizms are beautiful and stunning. And fans of the Prizm cards, as myself, will dig finding these randomly inserted into Father's Day Packs.

     

But below are the things that I look forward to most out of this promo...the incredible memorabilia and unique pieces they include.

     

 

These are not pieces you normally find in their daily products. Thats what makes the chase for these cards even more exciting.  These cards are Super Bowl XLV game-used football and end zone pylon cards (limited to 55 copies or less) and 2012 NFL Pro Bowl game-used football cards (limited to 25 or less) making the chase for these cards even rarer.

I also really like the design on the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl cards. It appears they are very high glossed and the color scheme used really fits each individual event.

Rookies And Stars Coming Back for 15th Season

For the past 14 years, Rookies and Stars has been out on the market and this year it makes another solid return in late August.

Each hobby box  will have eight cards per pack and 24 packs per box. Each hobby box will pack out four autograph or memorabilia cards (at least two autographs guaranteed), 24 Rookie Cards, six parallels, two Statistical Standouts, two Touchdown Club, two Game Plan, two Crusade and two additional inserts or parallels.

   

The absence of the Crusade insert makes its stunning return. I think the design looks great and will be one of those late 90's reminders of how great inserts looked back then.

  

This years rookie design is different then past years that had a manufactured patch signed. This should greatly improve an already great product. But I know a lot complained about the manu patches. Not me, I actually like them. But this should cut down on those complaints. The only problem I had with the manu patch was sometimes the autographs would run.

Preview: Panini Prizm Football

The glimmer the shine the chrome technology..now Panini has caught my attention as they have taken a great technology, improved it and made it stunning.This is only early glimpses into the product but I am sure it will be even more amazing in hand like its basketball counterpart we reviewed:

February is the set release for the product that contains a 300-card base set bolstered by 100 rookies seeded one per pack. In addition, there are autographed versions of all 100 rookies (numbered to 499 or less) and 100 of the veterans (numbered to 149 or less).

  

Each hobby box of 2012 Prizm Football (six cards per pack/20 packs per box) will deliver two autographs, three Prizms, one hobby-only Red Prizm, one Rookie Dominance, one Decade Dominance, one Brilliance and two additional inserts.

Also very exciting is a retail box version of 2012 Prizm Football (four cards per pack/24 packs per box) should yield one autograph, one Prizm, two retail-exclusive Green Prizms, one Rookie Dominance, one Decade Dominance, one Brilliance and one additional insert.

Random Card Of The Day: Totally Certified Quad Jersey card including Eli Manning/Aaron Rodgers

 

This is one of my favorite cards in my collection. My first Aaron Rodgers jersey card. Of coures Eli. But the design and the 4 great Super Bowl Winning qb's makes it one of my faves.

Review: 2011 Totally Certified Football

First and foremost, I have got to give Tracy Hackler and Panini a shout out for making this box available to us to review for them. Much thanks goes to them. Here is what I got. I was already impressed with the product to begin with and it did not disappoint me.

Box Design: Loved the box design. Probably one of the best I have seen this year. A lineup of All-Stars and top rookies on the cover. I would definitely grab this from a hobby shop!

Wrapper: Matches the box. I wished it did however have a player or two on the front. But overall, not bad looking.

Base Card/Inserts:  I had to combine the two since I must have deleted a picture by mistake. Sorry for that. The Base card design is spectacular. The best design with the dufex technology used. This kind of look makes you want to collect the base set!! The base cards are normally a red back ground. This is a blue parallel we pulled of Brian Urlacher. The only one in the box. But, it is numbered to 50.

Inserts Part Two: Panini did a great job of sneaking in these cards of Pepsi Rookie Of The Week winners of 2011. Loved doing the voting and now having the card in person.

Memorabilia: What more can we say??? They glisten. Very good size of jersey piece in the Certified Future jersey cards and they are numbered to 499.  Heritage Collection jersey of Jim Thorpe!!! Wow! Heritage has a great variety of old time vets and we pulled a nice one numbered to 100. The Stitches in Time is an incredible looking 4 jersey piece beauty. We got 4 Super Bowl winning qb's on ours. This was numbered to 90. We have seen some pretty sick Prime versions of that as well.

Autographs: You get one of these sick cards in every box.  Signed on card. And numbered to 499. We got Vincent Brown of the Chargers who could step in for Vincent Jackson who left. We also got a redemption, not pictured, for a Nathan Enderle Freshman Phenoms Sigs Blue.

Overall: You could tell this product would score high. The only negative was the redemption. Other than that. A solid looking product with tons of potential. The pictures here don't do this product justice. I find this product well worth the $150 per box price tag. And if you try it, you would too!
