The Grady Chronicles:Prizm Shines!

Well, here we are again. As I said in the last post from this series, we continue to unravel more shiny cards from the big box of goodies.

I know many baseball card collectors refuse to like Panini and their baseball products all because of logo issues. I say, you're missing out and your loss is the rest of ours gain.

Prizm baseball is just as good as Topps Chrome.
The silvers really stand out and maybe more so than the Topps Chrome versions.

Lots of Red,White, Blues.

And some purples I believe.

One of the things I think that separates Topps Chrome base and Prizms is the additions of legends. I like pulling shiny cards of Puckett, Carew and even my boy Ken Griffey Jr which you will see later on in my Grady Chronicles series.

More fun to come from this mail day and that includes some WWE, NASCAR, more baseball, football, Yankees and Ken Griffey Jr.

Hope you are enjoying the ride.

Thoughts on Panini Prizm vs Topps Chrome welcomed in comments.

The Grady Chronicles:Refractors Galore!

As we further dig into this box from Grady, we start unraveling lots of shiny.

This time, we look at some Topps Chrome.

Sepia Refractors with Vlad Jr and Eloy making an appearance.

Prism refractors not to be confused with Panini's Prizm. There is an S instead of a Z.

The always creepy Black and White which makes the players seem devilish.

And to finish it off, the plain base silver. Which is still a favorite of mine.

More shiny cards to come in this series, coming up tomorrow is the real Prizms.

Thoughts on today's shine welcomed in comments!

I Am Slow

Trevor over at Bump and Run Football Card Blog recently did a trade with me and I am soooooooooooooo slow that its taken me forever to return cards to him

Part of the problem was, family was up around the holidays. Second part was not having access to my card area because of Christmas presents being stored in there. The third reason, well, I haven't had time to dig out the cards in return as I tucked them away a couple of months ago in a box.

Hopefully by the time this publishes, Trevor will have his cards or they will be on the way at the very least.

As for my return, I got what I traded for and a few surprises.

Bonus surprises Trevor sent.

And two new Toneys for my PC he sent.

Thanks again to Trevor for our trade, now to get my butt going and get your stuff out. The sad thing is, you're not alone in this. You're on a list I have of mailings that need to be done. I actually apologize to everyone who is waiting on me. I will get it out!!

Custom

Catching up on mail days is not an easy job. I am still so, so backed up that I have begun breaking them down the best way I can to hurry the process. This may include not all of the cards I was sent.

For today's post it wasn't too hard to post three cards, even though this should have been posted a couple months ago.

Once again, Greg over at Nine Pockets blog made some cool customs and printed them off to give away.

There are certainly some great customs out there by bloggers and I think Greg's are some of the best. The ones he recently, recently is a word to tread lightly on as this was awhile back, were from his 2021 portfolio.

Growing up watching The Simpsons, I jumped on these two right off. These are based off from Pro Set golf design.

And my final claim, though there were others I wanted, was Jim Carrey. I enjoyed both Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura and thought this was a cool dual card.

Thanks again to Greg for the sweet customs. Can't wait to see what you create in 2022!

If you like these, he also sells them. Go check out his blog and see where you can pick these up and others.

(UPDATE: Greg also just sent me a Samurai Jack custom I gave to a kid with Autism who loves the show and who was also ecstatic about it. He gives his thanks)

Yup, you read the headline correctly. Today marks the 5600th post on Sport Card Collectors. This has been something 10 years in the making. That's a long time to be doing this on here and that's a lot of posts in that stretch.

I would actually like to take this minute out to give a shout out to Cards Over Coffee that has had some new posts up on. I am still wanting to grow that blog and am hoping with your help, I can.

So far it has only 41 followers and averages about 50 views a day. I would love to double those numbers by years end and think I can with your help.

This doesn't seem like much of a celebration for yet another big milestone on this blog, but, it's how I wanted to do it.

Thanks to all of you who have stopped by and read one or maybe more of the 5600 posts. There will be more to come.

And before I forget, check out Cards Over Coffee right HERE.

Shiny And Numbered

My recent trade with Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday gave me some shiny and numbered Giants cards.

Up first,
A Kadarius Toney Prestige Pink parallel /50. I started a rainbow chase of these, but then backed off from it. Rainbow chasing is very finicky and unless you are set in your mind of chasing one, then don't bother.

Prince Amukamara green parallel from Bowman Platinum /499. I wished Prince could had proven more for the Gmen, but he had some success afterwards, It seems to be a Giant way of things.

Kyle Lauletta was supposed to be the Eli Manning replacement, so wasn't Davis Webb and so wasn't Daniel Jones. I am not sure when the Giants will find their next QB. It could be Jones still, but almost feels unlikely at this point. I would love to bring in a proven veteran whether that's through Free Agency or trade. Come on Russell Wilson!!

And finally, speaking of QB's, the Giants also went through a really rough dry spell after this guy retired before finding their next Super Bowl winning QB. I must also note, I can't ever say no to a Collectors Edge parallel.

Thanks to Shane for these additions.

Thoughts on my cards today welcomed in comments.

More Toney!

The Giants season never quite panned out nor did their first round stud WR. But, we saw some really big flashes from Kadarius Toney when he was on the field healthy.

So, right now the way I look at it, it's a great time to load up on him while things are cheap. Cheap can be from buying them or by trading for them.

Here are six I picked up in a trade with Nekbone on Twitter who also threw in

this one. I love the gold shine on this card.

Up next, the top card I wanted of Toney,
That originally was found for $20 and I found for $3. I just love the color scheme.

Finally,

My buddy Brent landed me this Rookie Sweater of Toney. The first time a Giant was featured in this set.

I hope to add some more Toneys as I go on but more importantly, I hope the Giants can find a way to right the ship. Football is the only sport I truly watch and enjoy and having to go through this sewage every year is so frustrating!!

The Grady Chronicles:Mosaic Soccer

We dive right in today to another part in my reader Grady M box showoff.

And when I say box, it's a heavy back breaking box filled with inserts, team cards, let's say about a medium flat rate size full of treasures.

The treasures within cover a multitude of sports including the main four, WWE and even today's sport, soccer.

I don't know many soccer players at all as it's not a sport I watch, but once again, it is a sport I will take cards of regardless.

Especially shiny ones.

Today's shiny ones are brought to you by Mosaic.

Silver Mosaic

Green?

Every time I see a pink card, I think maybe, just maybe I should do a daily post like Collecting Cutch in October.

Some other form of silver. I am terrible at these parallels.

Silver again

I tried my best to capture these shiny goods without using my lightbox, guess maybe next time I should.

Breakin' Wax: 2021 Donruss Football Mega Box (decent break)

It's so hard finding good cards in retail still. Yes, I have found cards on the shelf, but Topps Update, Topps Heritage, WWE stuff, WNBA, Wild Card, are not products of interest.

But, never find good football or basketball cards on the shelf. They sell out and I just simply don't time it right.

However, I did time this one right. I showed up to Walgreens and BOOM, there sat four boxes of 2021 Donruss football Megas. I wanted all four, but not at $50 a pop. First of all, it was close to Christmas when I found this and I had already drained a lot of funds and I never would spend that much to begin with.

So, I grabbed one and called it good. (after some pleading with the Mrs to do so too)
Every Mega Box comes with an autograph. I was hoping for a top veteran auto or something for my Giants PC.

Slayton Bronze for my PC.

Retro Series

Throwback design

My Rated Rookies that consisted of about nobody (well the Patriots running back wasn't too bad but wasn't also the Patriots QB)

Some shiny!!

And then, some Pink Optic. The outside of the box said that they were rare, but I got one in every pack. I also couldn't find out info on these to see if they were actually rare or if they are one per pack.

But either way, I landed the top pick and a Toney for the PC!

And now the autograph unveil....

Shawne Merriman Signature Marks autograph.

Overall I am not going to complain about this box break. It may have been my best retail break of 2021 other than the Allen Ginter Judge auto I landed.

Your thoughts on my break are welcomed below!

Saying Goodbye

As I sit here and refresh my news feed waiting on NY Giants coaching news today, which by the way I am all about firing Joe Judge, I begin to think about a few players I could be saying goodbye to when the NFL season officially ends.

Guys like Evan Engram, (possibly) Saquon Barkley, (possibly) Daniel Jones and Sterling Shepard may not be returning next year. These were core Giants players for a few years, and I enjoyed watching them. Yes, even Engram with his game winning drops.

One of the guys I always had a soft spot for was Sterling Shepard. He always seemed like a team guy, but never quite got a lot of throws his way. He did have some big games and started out this season looking like the number one guy, but injuries have been throughout his career and set him back a lot. As much as I wanted to see him succeed in blue, I know after this season full of injuries he won't be back next year or maybe not at all in the NFL.

So today, I wanted to say goodbye by showing off my latest addition to my Sterling Shepard PC thanks to a Christmas gift from legendary blogger Wes.

A 2016, rookie year, autograph booklet from Panini Playbook.

Inside of the booklet features a jersey swatch along with an autograph on-card autograph on some acetate.

Thanks goes out to Wes for the card.

I also want to thank Shepard for his time with the Giants if this was it as expected.

As for saying goodbye to coaches and the GM, I just refreshed my phone and still no information on it. I just can't see the owners justifying keeping either guy around. The team was the worst in the league.

Thoughts on my mail day welcomed below or any memories of Sterling Shepard.
