Groovy Baby!

Austin Powers is a movie that has plenty of memorable moments, quotable humorous lines and a movie series that will always stand the test of time.

And now I have a piece of that movie in my collection.

I recently grabbed this 2008 Upper Deck A Piece Of Hollywood featuring a swatch of Austin Powers pants worn by Mike Myers from the movie for my non-sport PC.

Back of the card is the certification and pants that the swatch had been taken from.

I really like these relic cards and own quite a few in my collection. I have been wanting to add this one for quite some time and finally found a reasonable one.

Thoughts on my latest add welcomed in comments. Also, let me know if you enjoyed the Austin Powers movies and what your favorite one is from the group is.

Hope you have a great Saturday!

Only Wanted One, But Ended Up With Two

We all know that Crystal didn't play for the Yankees, but in 2008 he got to celebrate his 60th birthday in style by signing a minor league contract for the Yankees so he could get one at-bat with the team in a spring training game against the Pirates. This was something Derek Jeter suggested for the long time Yankee fan to do to celebrate the big day. Crystal chopped at one pitch but ended up striking out in the end. It was still a very memorable moment for him and is the first time I have ever heard of an experience for a celebrity like this to do.

To celebrate the moment, Tristar put out an Sp card of him in their 2008 Projections product. Crystal was card number 400 in the set.
I originally just wanted the one base card, which finally I landed for $2 after waiting patiently for a couple of years, but I also landed the parallel.

The graded Reflectives parallel of the card was had for less than $10. I couldn't let it go for that price to someone else especially when it looks even better than the base.

Now with two of the cards from the product, it really makes me want to get the autograph version to. Not that I can afford to, but maybe I will luck out some day and find a cheap copy if I am patient enough.

Thoughts on the card and your favorite Billy Crystal movie is welcomed in comments!

Eli's Cardboard:2008 Upper Deck Football Heroes Jersey Card

They don't make jersey cards like they used to.

Most of today's jersey cards, specifically for football, are not game used anymore. Heck, most have no specifics at all.

They have become lame to even add to your collection anymore. It's sort of like a filler card at this point.

That's why I enjoy snagging older jersey cards while they were still game worn, especially when they are cheap.

Today's Eli Manning game used jersey card costed me a whole $3.25 plus .73 shipping. For less than $5, I grabbed a swatch of game worn material from Eli Manning.
The design of these cards are not bad either.

Back of the card with the game used guarantee.

In comments today, let me hear about your thoughts on relic cards from today.

Have a great Tuesday.

I Didn't Have It!

I kept seeing these 2008 Topps Chrome Super Bowl 42 Eli Manning subset card come across my eBay window shopping feed when I was looking him up and I thought to myself, pretty sure I have this.

But, as all collectors should, I double checked and didn't have it. I had the regular Topps version.

This is the problem I am facing when I don't have a checklist ready of the Eli Manning cards I have. I am having to dig out the binder every time and it's a pain. It's probably time I start to put my Eli cards on TCDB so I know what I have already and it may be a tad easier to check. I prefer to have my own excel checklist to go along with the others I have since it's easier to scroll through and less time consuming.

Oh well. I will get to it at some point. For now I will just dig through the binder and see what I have.

The assumption you must have made by now was that I grabbed that 2008 Topps Chrome Eli Manning Super Bowl 42 subset card, as long as you haven't already skipped over my gibberish to see it, if you didn't cheat you would be right. Not only did I grab it, but I also grabbed a couple parallels of it as well.

The back of the card gives the stats of Super Bowl 42 of each player. This Super Bowl meant a lot to me so I try to grab a variety of different cards to celebrate it when I can.

2008 Topps Chrome had its fair share of parallels such as Red, Blue, Superfractor, Refractor, Xfactor, Copper and Gold uncirculated refractors.

I am not sure they made all of the cards including the subsets in all refractor versions or just the base cards, but these two parallels were the only ones I could find of the subset card.
Regular Refractor

Xfactor

Here are all three of them together

If there are other parallels to this collection, I will hopefully find and add them later on as my chase for Eli Manning cards I don't have rages on. Right now, I am just happy with what I have added.

Rodney's Corner:2002 Topps Reserve Autograph Mini Helmet

We are on a commercial break on Parts Of My Past with The Origins Of A Cardboard Addict series,

Time to cue the ABC Bumper For Commercial break
with the newest segment, Rodney's Corner. This segment will feature all of my newest Rodney Hampton additions. This will still stick with the 90's because it's the era Rodney was from and why I collected him.

Today's item, yes not a card this time, was the one autograph I had left of Rodney's to find up until Panini released it's 2018 products. I was this close to owning every Rodney Hampton autograph on my checklist til 2018.

Now I am four away including three 1/1's. That's next to impossible.

In the early 2000's, Topps came out with the Topps Reserve line and it was spread across a few sports. Every hobby box of the product came with packs of cards and a mini helmet, hat, or other signed item. I think it was a fun concept and even bought a box of the baseball at the time. I did pretty well and will share that when we hit the 2000's in my Origins series.

For years I have been searching for the Rodney Hampton helmet to pop up at a reasonable price and one finally did. With some work of magic from my friend @90sNicheFBCard I was able to land it and cross it off the checklist.

I tried my best to capture the autograph magic but it wouldn't show to well through the plastic with so many reflections. But, here's the back of the helmet with the sticker and numbering of the helmet.

Thanks to Bryan for the sweet addition. This was actually one of many Hampton additions he helped me with in our trade.

Til next time...

Best Nachos I Ever Had!

There has been a lot of generosity throughout this holiday season and it's been great to view. I have seen other collectors support each other, I have supported some and I have received some. One of those guys was Nachos Grande Blog who took down all commenters want lists and did his best to help.

He took down the fact I collect non sport, don't think there are many bloggers that do, and sent me some goodies. First up, some cool Allen And Ginter I didn't have including Bruce Lee and Tony Hawk base.

Then we got political. No we didn't discuss politics, that always goes ugly, but instead he sent me some.

And some more...

And finally some more. I am a huge fan of these 2008 ones. I believe I am closing in on the set. May be missing only a couple.

Bart Giamatti

Awesome Celebrity Predictor from 2010 Upper Deck. I have a few of these but not this one of Enrique and Anna. 16 years strong.

And to end it, two packs of cards. One was a Tristar TNA and the other is Yo! MTV Raps. both I am saving for my new series in 2018 called Rainy Day Wax.

A big thanks goes out to Nachos for the mail day and the generosity. I enjoyed every bit of it.

The Only One To Return

I feel like my luck TTM and NY Giants are non-compatible.

Out of 13 attempts, which includes both stars and non-stars, only one player was nice enough to return one back to me.

That player, CB R.W. McQuarters.

If you don't remember, R.W. played a major role in the Giants run to Super Bowl 42 intercepting a pass in the first three rounds of the playoffs especially in the Division Round against Dallas where he intercepted Tony Romo in the end zone to end the game. He played for the Giants overall from the 2006-2008 seasons.

I sent this into R.W. right after I got the card in a pack and he sent it right back.

I actually haven't even tried to send any TTM to Giants players the last few years knowing I probably won't get lucky. But, I may try again this summer just to see. Will let you all know who I send it to and my rate of success.

Eli Picks: 2008 Absolute Memorabilia Red Spectrum Eli Manning

Eli's Picks is a segment where Eli himself, well a stuffed Bleacher Creature version, picks his favorite base/insert cards to show off.
Eli is back again and this time chose a simple parallel to showcase.

Is it because of the parallel this card is being showcased? No.  It's because of the jersey Eli is wearing.

I really dig the red alternate jerseys and usually I am not a fan of white background cards as I prefer action shots, but the white works well here as it really shows off the jersey Eli is wearing.

The red jerseys haven't been worn in awhile but were showcased a few times in the late 00's. I hope they make another return.

The Card Bin: What Did I Find This Time?

I really enjoyed doing this post over at The Card Bin blog and I wasn't just going to leave you all hanging with it. So without further ado, another post from The Card Bin, which is what I call this this tote right here:

I think most of us collectors have that one place we store all of our extra cards that are not PC related. This is where I stick mine. I also use this as a once-in-awhile dig through to bring back memories or for a just for fun experience. I will start posting cards from this bin to show you what's hiding in there. I honestly have no idea what is in there, I only know its autographs and memorabilia cards from the past 14 years. So this should be fun for both you and I!

Onto today's find:
2008 Upper Deck X Jered Weaver Jersey Card
Thoughts on today's find are welcomed!

Upper Deck Super Bowl Contest

About a week before the Super Bowl Upper Deck had announced they were having a Super contest and boy did they not disappoint. With Sp Authentic coming out and the Super Bowl upon us and Valentines Day, they put the combination of the three and came up with the following contest.

You must show your LOVE for Sp Authentic and football in two sentences or less in order to win an Sp Authentic autograph patch rookie card of both Joe Flacco and Colin Kaepernick. Upon hearing this news, we knew we had to show our love for the product since it is a favorite year in and year out. And the fact that both of these QB's were in the Super Bowl and had hot hands who would not want to own these terrific red hot cards??!!

Well, We took some time, actually a few hours, and got all of my Sp Authentic cards out and put together a contest piece hoping we would win these really top notch auto patch rookies. After a few days of nervously counting down and waiting and wondering... BOOM! We won! We couldn't believe it! We are still in disbelief!

The contest was fun and definitely was worth it. Thanks again must go out to Upper Deck and Chris Carlin for putting on a great contest and giving collectors a chance to win great prizes like these.
